SIMPLE PAST TENSE


The Past Tense is used to express an action or event that happened in the past.
The characteristics of the simple past tense are using the 2nd form of the verb 2 or to be in the
form of was/were.

The form of simple past tense:


Sentence Verbal & Nominal Formula

Negative (-) Verbal Subject + did + not + Verb 1

Notes :
 For positive sentence use verb 2
 For negative and interrogative use verb 1
 If we want to make an interrogative sentence then to be (was,were) for pattern a and did
for pattern b we place it in front of the subject.

1. Positive sentence :

 Ferry bought new handphones yesterday


 I was bored this morning

2. Negative sentence :
 Toni did not find the item she wanted to buy yesterday
 I didn’t drink tea this morning
 Fera didn’t visit Lita yesterday
 He didn’t complete his task

3. Interrogative sentence :
 Was Shavina sick yesterday?
 Did he drink tea this morning?
 Did he buy carrots yesterday?
 Did he find the item he wanted?

PRESENT PERFECT TENSE


Present perfect tense is a form of verb that is used to express an action or situation that started in
the past and still continues until now or has been completed at a certain point in time in the past
but the effect is still ongoing.
The form of present perfect tense:

Positive (+) Subject + have/has + Verb3
Negative (-) Subject + have/has + not + Verb3
Interrogative (?) Have/has + subject + Verb3 + (?)

Note :
 If you make an interrogative sentence, have and has placed in front of the subject.
Example : Have you eaten you bread?
 if you make a negative sentence then add not behind have and has.
Example : They haven’t come here yet.
