Wassim: Dad, what’s the difference between lifestyles in the past and now?

Father: I always think of the time when I used to live in a farm, especially in winter when we
were cut off from the outside world. Life was very simple for me. I used to go to the nearest
school. My father worked in the fields and my mother helped him. She worked indoors and
outdoors. In that time, I collected wood and fed the domestic animals and my sisters fetched
water and helped in the house chores. There, we didn’t have many free time activities. So, we
listened to radio and in the evening, all families used to sit by the fire in a big room where we
told tales.

In summer, we hadn’t refrigerator; we drank fresh and tasty water from the pottery jars
made of clay. My grandmother made and decorated them. In addition, we ate fresh
vegetables and fruits that father grew.

Now, life has completely changed, I’m in a city. I live in a small flat, then I buy food from the
supermarket. The streets seem to be smaller because of the traffic and the air is polluted. I get
stressed and I dream of the time when I will be on holidays to be able to leave the town and
escape to the countryside.
