STUDENT’S PRESSURE BY THEIR ATHLETIC LIFE IN SCHOOL

CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

1.1  Background of the study

  Academic pressure is part of the life of students and, from time to time, they feel it. It is
one of the greatest causes of stress for a student. These pressures come mostly from parents
and peers, and from fear. Fear of failure and embarrassment.

Athletes are known to encounter particular stress conditions that are not often
encountered by the general student body. Student athletes may be at a greater risk of anxiety
and depression because of this. They are also forced to drive themselves to the brink,
recognizing that poor results will impact coaching relationships and a decline in scholarships.
There is even more pressure from student athletes (Perry, n.d).

Many schools offer a lot of opportunities to different kinds of students. You have the
opportunity to become a student athlete if the student is an athletic kind of person. Every school
has qualified athletes in some sports such as basketball, volleyball, badminton, taekwondo etc.
as an active member of certain associations. After classes, the senior high school basketball
team practices regularly. They need to maintain their passing grades when practicing and
training for leagues, particularly for one of the most exciting leagues, Like LAPPRISA, LAPSAA,
and etc.

The role of student athletes in athletics and academic success was a point of debate
long ago. Critics noticed that sports participation may decrease the time available for studying
and learning as student athletes have trouble managing their time between the hectic schedule
of sports training and the necessity of academic subjects, but sports enthusiasts believed that,
Fitness and fitness and the spirit of teamwork, sportsmanship and camaraderie are understood.
In addition, researchers showed bits of evidence that mentally and physically alert students who
excel in sports and physical alertness often increased their results, gained more, and are likely
to continue attending school classes.

    Looking forward to the intramurals in their school, where they have the opportunity to
showcase their talents to play their sports. Many students often spend their time studying, but
neglect their academic duties. In the opposite, students consider the beneficial aspects of
athletic participation, such as improved time control, school satisfaction and acknowledgement.
Sports will be the pinnacle of the school experience of many students. They offer opportunities
for students to make new friends, have fun, and learn to combine schoolwork with activities after
school. There are also potential negatives, with all these advantages. Any students, or
burdened with schoolwork, may be too stressed out.

    Today, the question of whether the strategies used by varsity players help them handle their
tension and academic burden with respect to the sport they are participating in and their
academic success.

1.2  Purpose of the study

   The purpose of this study is to understand well how the student athlete struggles in
everyday life in school, and how they manage their time to be a student at the same time as
an athlete. Additionally this research focuses on problems of the student athlete for example
stress, anxiety and their mental health and how their mental health affects them. Lastly this
research tell how the student athlete overcome their individual problems in academic and in
their athletic life.

 1.3   Research question

RQ #1: How do student athletes manage their academic life with their athletic life?

RQ #2: How do they feel about pressure in academics in terms of submitting projects and
passing requirements and other activity?

RQ #3: How do they manage their good health after training and after class?

1.4  Significance of the study

The research focused on  the experience of student athletes in terms of academic pressure,
And how they manage the pressure being student and athlete, many student athletes
struggling in their academics due to deadlines and some activity to pass. This research
helps student athletes manage their time to lessen their pressure.

1.5  Scope and delimitation       

         In terms of academic pressure, this research focused on the experiences of student-
athletes, how this impacts their life as an athlete and as a student, and how they deal with these
difficulties.  The respondents were student-athletes AMA Basic Education of Las Pinas senior
high school department.
