Academic Achievement as Influence by Sport participation of Senior

High School Students Athlete

School sports refers to athletic programs in the context of the school setting. It refer most
often to interschool competition at the middle/senior high school and high school levels.
Students athletes are legitimately can joined the school sport this program is an annual
multi-level national scholastic athletic competition conducted by the DepED and
participated in by Elementary and secondary student from both public and private schools.
It the culmination of sports activities in Philippines school, which start with local school
intramurals, followed by the district, division and regional athletic meets.

The sport involvement and academic achievement of senior high school students athletes
participating in sport may reduce the time available for studying and learning, since
students athletes have difficulties in managing their time between schedules of sport
training and requirements of academic subjects sports participation can motivate students
athlete to achieve harder, raise scholastic ambition and keep them attending to school. In
several studies show that sports participation have both a positive and negative influence
on the Academic performance of learners. Positive influence such as improve time
management skills, students athlete are required to balance their academic and athletic
commitments which can help them develop effective time management skills. This skills
can be transferred to other aspect of their loves and enhance academic motivation.
Student athletes are often highly motivated to succeed in their sports, and this motivation
can translate to their sport, and this motivation can translate to their academic work as
well. Their are also bad or negative influence of sport participation such as time constraints
balancing academic and athletic commitment can be challenging and may lead stress and
anxiety. This can impact academic performance, especially if students are not able to
effectively manage their time and also the pressure to perform, students athletes may feel
pressure to perform well in both their sports and academic which can lead in academic
development.

In addition according to Mortecalbo Ignacio, C.R. et.al. (2017). In sports and physical
activity lead to develop mental and physical alertness, mentally and physically alert
students improve their performance. Students athlete learn valuable life skills such as
cooperation, leadership and time management that they can apply to their sport
participation also help in developing positive attitude towards self improvement, discipline,
goal setting and better physical and mental health, through sports participation can lead to
improve mental and physical which can positively impact academic performance. Students
athletes may also opportunities scholarship that excel in their sport may have opportunity
to receive athletic scholarships which can provide higher access to higher education that
may other have been otherwise unattainable. Student athletes experiencing limited focus
on other extracurricular activities too because sport participation can be time consuming
and also the risk of physical injury is higher for student athletes which can impact
academic performances if unable to attend classes or complete assignments due to injury
or recovery time.

Students athletes may face challenges when it comes to academic achievement.


Balancing the demands of sport and school work can be difficult and students athletes
may struggle with stress and time constraints. Additionally some coaches may prioritize
athletic performance over academic performance which could negatively affect students
success while participating in sports, it is important to provide them with with the
necessary support and resources. This include academic tutoring, study halls, flexible
scheduling, and communication between coaches and teachers. By providing student
athletes with the support they need to succeed academically and help them achieve both
their athletic and academic goals.
