(Pros and Cons)

Discussion text is one of genre type text that used to present at least two different points of view of a
controversial issue. The opinion stated in this text is public opinion and not the writer’s personal idea toward
the issue.
Because it is talking about controversial issue, there will raise Pro and Contra part. The Pro team/part are
people who agree or support the idea of the issue, while the Contra team are people who disagree or against
the idea of the issue.

This type of text are built up through the structure as follow:

1. Issue
State an issue that become a problem and polemic in the society which raise pro and contra
(controversial issue). The writer has to state that the issue is controversial is the last sentence of the
paragraph.

2. Argument For (Pro)

This part of text show the reason points and arguments from people who support the idea of the issue
(Pro team)

3. Arguments Against (Contra)

This part of text show the reason points and arguments from people who against the idea of the issue
(Contra team)

4. Conclusion
In this part, the writer make a conclusion over the controversial issue based on the arguments of pro
and contra parts. Sometimes the writer add his opinion over the issue but it is better to be neutral
part.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Falling in Love

Have you ever fallen in love? How does it feel? Does it give you more strength or
weakness? Many people will say that it gives them more advantages while others may
say that its disadvantages are pre dominant for their loves’ live. So, what are the ISSUE
advantages and the disadvantages of falling in love? The following discussion is trying
to give you a better vision of the advantages and the disadvantages of falling in love.

The first advantage of falling in love is that you have someone by your side, someone
to share life's experiences, and someone who will always support you. Besides, love
makes life more exciting, colorful, and enjoyable. You will also be healthier physically ARGUMENT
and mentally when you have someone who always cares about you. Another advantage is PRO
that you can also experience the greatest mysteries of life when you fall in love.
Lastly, having someone who loves you can motivate you to be a better person because
you will always want to make him/her proud of you and you'll have someone around you
who can help you.

On the other hand, falling in love also has some disadvantages. The first disadvantage
is feeling confined or trapped. It happens when the percentages of love are not ARGUMENT
balanced from both people. Also, sometimes, expectations result in disappointment. CONTRA
The disadvantage is that this condition often makes you down and loss your spirit to
continue your life. In this case, falling in love can also add drama to your life.

Love will always have good and bad effects. It is only maturity which can manage these
two effects wisely. So, you may fall in love every time but don’t have a relationship CONCLUSION
unless you have been mature enough to manage your feeling not to be too dramatic
when you fall in love with someone.
