Compared to personal relationships, a term such as “why enslave oneself to a piece of paper,
when the world constantly changes”, emerges, and Chinese people prefer face-to-face
communication. So it can be concluded that China is categorized into High Context Culture.

US : Low Context. Unlike the Chinese people, the US people actually think that a message
sent or received must be clear and explicit, both spoken and written. Hence the
communication between the two parties based on low-context culture tends to be specific and
direct. So it can be concluded that US is categorized into Low Context Culture.

Type of Community

China : Collectivism. Collectivism is moral stance, political philosophy, ideology, or social

view that upholds the group and its interests. Collectivists focus on society or national
interests in various types of political, economic, and educational systems which has been
directly implemented by China.

US : Individualism. Individualism is a philosophy that has a moral, political or social view

that emphasizes human freedom and the interests of responsibility and self-determination, in
other words, the US is categorized as individualism because it upholds personal interests and
freedoms.

China and US have similarities in the perception of power where both China and the US are
categorized as superior. This happens because both China and the US both have great power
in various aspects, such as economics, politics, and other aspects.

How Long Negotiations Should Take

China : Long Term. Chinese attach great importance to accuracy, which confirms that China
is included in the long term orientation.

US : Short Terms. The old adage “time is money” is most definitely an American
perspective, which in other words, US assumes that time is everything coupled with the fact
that US is categorized as a low context culture which is said that US prefers the
communication between the two parties based on low-context culture tends to be specific,
explicit, direct, and clear.

Distance Between Parties

China citizen have the common interest so they could rely it on parties.

US : A Lot of different between two parties in US, US citizien rely on parties that relate their
own interest.

Type of Political System

China : Authoritarian. Authoritarian regime was born since the People’s Republic of China
(PRC) was founded in 1949. Even so, the PKC or known as Partai Komunis China is
considered to be a supporter of the China’s strength with its anti-democratic and anti-political
single-party system.

US : Democratic. US has a democratic political system because it is a federal constitutional

republic, in which the President (head of state and head of government), Congress, and the
judiciary share the powers inherent in the national government, and the federal government
shares sovereignty with the state governments.
