Growing up in Bangladesh, I have observed economic growth over the last decade as the outcome of its

policy implications. Thus, in my four years of undergraduate study, I have developed a deep-rooted
affinity towards scholarly articles about policy analysis. As we all know, COVID-19 has brought about
unprecedented changes in human history in manifolds. Along with the health hazard, mass people are
comprehending the deep economic crisis and social distress that are building up like a bubble in the
form of poverty and widening inequality. For this reason, global discussion on the development
paradigm will certainly alter. Now more than ever, I am interested in pursuing my degree focused on
quantitative economic analysis. Which will not only allow me to become a proficient analyst but also
help me to upkeep with the versatile field of Bangladesh economics.

In the final year, my submitted project was concentrated on key reasons which trigger countries to
deviate from developing economies with environmental sustainability and the existing problems for
environmental policy failure which attempts to provide an in-depth analysis for failure in law
enforcement and political institutions, incentive schemes and over prioritization of economic growth.
This helped me to realize the dire need for analytically skilled people in Bangladesh as a developing
nation. It left me with a lingering impression and led me to think about how I can be a part of fueling the
change for this status quo. Hence, my desire for studying advanced economic policies and data analysis
has emerged.

Bangladesh is currently one of the fastest-growing economies. I believe that it is high time we reformed
our policies in order to build an inclusive economy, and think tanks advocate for that. My undergraduate
program allowed me to relate my theoretical and empirical knowledge to the economic trends in my
country. My ultimate goal is to work in the development sector of my country, specifically in a think
tank, and add to interdisciplinary research on diverse policy issues to reshape the lives of the vulnerable.
Having a master's degree in Economics from a globally recognized institution would provide me a head
start to fulfill my ambition. It would help me immensely to comprehend the core of real-life problems
and ways to mitigate them, and take me a step toward the excellence I aspire to attain.

Although my academic performance fluctuated in my initial days, I was able to uphold my grades with
diligence in the last two years of my graduation where I took the advanced courses on optimization,
econometrics, and macro-microeconomics that taught me to present a topic where I can argue for or
against the statement through my software skills such as, Stata. Furthermore, my leadership and
communication skills were enhanced through my club activities, and my full time job at a private
consultancy firm has instilled my sense of responsibility and independent work. I am positive that the
blend of my academic knowledge, fieldwork, presentations, projects and life skills would stand me in
good stead amidst Syracuse University’s diverse learning environment.

With structural changes in production coupled with technological progress, the mode of employment
has been changing even before the virus spreads. Analyzing the Bangladesh labor force survey data from
2005/2006 to 2016/2017 it has been undeniable that there is a gradual decrease of routine-intensive
repeated tasks while demand for analytical ability is rising sharply. Thus, in my pursuit of becoming an
adept analyst who specializes in putting a quantitative perspective to related theories, I have come to
understand that my career interests are aligned with the Syracuse University offered program. Besides
that, the university delivers an accessible environment for graduate student placement. This opens a
door for collaboration among faculties and students in the area of survey design and research
implementation. It makes me more excited to work with the distinguished research faculties of the
University. They can guide in understanding how to approach problem-solving through data-driven
decisions and create an effective strategy. Such advanced knowledge will provide me an edge in the
public research field of Bangladesh. Henceforth, with the experiences, I can review social problems from
several angles and build near accurate predictive analytics.

I believe I can contribute to the Department of Economics through my academics, research experience,
and leadership quality. Experiences have made me confident to face the upcoming challenges in
graduate school. Therefore, I genuinely think that the Syracuse University offered program would be a
breakthrough for me to enhance my area of knowledge.
