CORAL ASSESSMENT REPORT of LGU ALUBIJID / LGU LAGUINDINGAN

PROPOSED SEAPORT

Location:
Brgy Molocboloc, Alubijid and Brgy Moog, Laguindingan
Misamis Oriental

Purpose of the Assessment:

1. Conducted Coral assessment on the proposed seaport at Brgy
Molocboloc, Alubijid – Brgy Moog, Laguidndingan Area
2. Determined the extent of coral that will be directly and
indirectly affected by the construction of seaport.

Date of Assessment:

July 5 – 8, 2016

Divers Involved:

1. VIANNEY ANTHONY A. GAPUZ, OIC Fisheries Resource Management

Section
2. EFIFANIO SALAGUSTE, Technical Diver / Marine Biologists
3. MARK ANTHONY SIA, Technical Diver
4. Two divers from Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) – Engr Mark
Avellana, Llewellyn W. Saavedra

RESULTS:

The proposed area for seaport is a coral reef area with good
coral cover (Figure 1). Adjacent to the proposed seaport is the
Alubijid Marine Protected Area (MPA) which 500 meters from the said
area. North of the proposed seaport, about 1,350 meters is the Moog
MPA of Laguindingan, Misamis Oriental (Fig 2).

The coral reef area within the proposed seaport has the following
coordinates:

 Point 1 = 8.603343°N, 124.474710°E

 Point 2 = 8.603145°N, 124.474957°E
 Point 3 = 8.600563°N, 124.471923°E
 Point 4 = 8.598845°N, 124.472481°E
 Point 5 = 8.600840°N, 124.472716°E
The estimated area of the coral reef area is 17,620 sq m.

Figure 1. Assessed reef area within the proposed seaport.

Figure 2. Location and distance of ALubijid Fish Sanctuary and

Moog Fish Sanctuary relative to the proposed seaport.
The result of the assessment conducted through photo transect
showed that the reef area has a good coral cover.
