Surah e Tehreem 2
Abstract
Quran is the word of Allah in the form of a glorious book. Allah is our creator; he knows our
characteristics and intelligence, so he revealed a book that we can understand easily. Just
imagine, how is it possible that Allah who has supreme wisdom revealed a book of guidance that
is beyond the intelligence of his creation? Definitely no! The only thing we need to do is to
analyze his glorious Quran so that we may understand and practice. In this report, we analyze
Surah e Tehreem (Surah 66) and discuss some important daily life lessons, which every one of
us can easily learn and practice to live his life beautifully and peacefully according to the
commandments of our creator.

Introduction
The blessed Chapter, revealed in Medina, has twelve Verses. The Surah derived its name Al-
Tehreem means The Prohibition from the words lima tuharrimu of the very first verse. The
opening verses of Surat al-Tehreem describe an incident in which the Prophet, peace, and
blessings be upon him, prohibited upon himself something admirable to please his wives. It has
been authentically narrated on the authority of Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, that the
Prophet prohibited himself from drinking honey to please his wives. Aisha and Hafsa were upset
that the Prophet was spending more time with his wife Zainab because of a honey drink she used
to serve him, so they secretly agreed to pretend to be offended by the odor. The Prophet did not
want to offend his wives, so he swore an oath never to drink it again. Allah revealed the verses
telling the Prophet not to prohibit what is lawful. The blessed chapter proceeds by referring to the
merits and demerits of humans and then describes humans who possess such traits. The wives of
Noah (A.S) and Lot (A.S) are presented as those who possess demerits and the wife of Pharaon
and Mary (AS) are suggested as those who possess merits.

Treasurers in Surah e Tehreem

 Why Allah bounded us in halal and haram?
One of the glorious names of Allah is Al-Hakeem. Allah knows far better than us that what is
good for us and what is bad for us. Therefore, to save us from harmful things or acts that may
ruin our life, Allah has marked the boundary of halal and haram. Allah has the right of deciding
halal or haram because he is our creator, he loves us and he is the best planner. On the other hand,
we humans are not perfect. Therefore, we should not make any lawful or halal act unlawful or
haram to please our family or ourselves.
 How can we strengthen our relations?
First of all, we should be truthful and trustful in our relations. We should keep the secrets of each
other and must not reveal them. Otherwise, the seed of doubt between truthfulness and
trustfulness will grow in our hearts and cause serious devastation in our characters and relations.
Secondly, we should forgive others because we all are humans. Our forgiving and lovely
behavior beautifies our status in others' hearts, which is a source of true love, and respect, which
is the base of a strong and good relation. We should help each other to strengthen our faith in
Allah because if our focus is Duniya, we may betray but we will never betray if we focus on
Allah’s will and happiness.

Surah e Tehreem 3
 Allah will forgive those who repent, no matter how big sin they have committed
In the eighth ayah of this surah, Allah says that he will forgive if we repent. Allah is Al-Raheem.
We must not be disappointed by the mercy of Allah because Allah loves to forgive. Allah loves
those who repent. There is a Hadith Qudsi that:
“Allah the Almighty said: O son of Adam, so long as you call upon Me and ask of Me, I shall
forgive you for what you have done, and I shall not mind. O son of Adam were your sins to
reach the clouds of the sky and were you then to ask forgiveness of Me, I would forgive you. O
son of Adam were you to come to Me with sins nearly as great as the earth and were you then to
face Me, ascribing no partner to me, I would bring you forgiveness nearly as great as it would”.
(Sunan al-Tirmidhi ̄ 3540)
 Allah will judge humans by their efforts and acts.

Humans have the freedom of selecting right or wrong for themselves and Allah guides them so
that they can easily identify and differentiate between good and bad. Just like the wives of Noah
(A.S) and Lot (A.S) that they are the wives of righteous men on the face of the earth at that time
but still, they disobeyed Allah and their righteous husbands would not be able to save them from
hellfire. On the other hand, the wife of Pharaon, the worst man on the face of the earth at that
time, accepted the message of Hazrat Musa (A.S) and obeyed Allah. Similarly, Hazrat Maryam
(R.A) also obeyed Allah in crucial times and Allah promises that both of these women will be
rewarded with a noble status in Jannah. Therefore, the only way to get a high rank in front of
Allah is to follow his commandments, and for this Allah does not want us to be perfect rather
than this, he wants us to be one of those who put their efforts to please him and repent when they
are being distracted by Duniya.

Conclusion
The prime purpose of the glorious Quran is to guide humans but only those will get the guidance
who put their efforts to find the truth by the spirit of being practical. For example, only those
students will get top positions who work hard throughout the semester because they knew that
without their efforts they would not be able to secure high marks in exams. Similarly, our life is
an exam for the hereafter, and only those who will pass an exam who work hard throughout his
life for Jannah. This surah is very helpful for us to pass our hereafter exam. This surah tells us
that patience, efforts, prayers, and hope on Allah’s mercy are the keys to getting the blessings of
Allah. May Allah bless us all and help us all to be one of those who devoted their intentions for
their beloved creator i.e. Allah.
