Allah’s relationship with the created world

6. SURAH AL- FATIHAH (1:1 to 7)

1. In the name of Allah, most gracious, most merciful. 2. Praise be to Allah, the cherisher and sustainer of
the worlds; 3. Most gracious, most merciful; 4. Master of the day of judgment. 5. You we worship, and
your aid we seek. 6. Show us the straight way, 7. The way of those to whom You have given your grace,
not those who earn
your anger, nor those who go astray.
(a)
1. This is the first Sura of the Holy Quran which mentions the relationship
between man and God. 2. It also tells us about the most important theme of the
Quran, which is Tawhid, the belief that Allah is One.
3. It tells us that Allah is our Lord and the Lord of everything else that exists, even
the things we cannot see or know about. Since He is the Master of all creations
therefore, He is only deserving of worship. 4. Allah is the only One to ask for
forgiveness because it is He who can grant forgiveness for anything as He is the
Most-Merciful.
5. He gives guidance to those who ask and leads them to the path acceptable
to Him. Therefore, this surah is used as a prayer to seek guidance and
forgiveness.
(b)
1. Sura Fatiah tells that Allah is powerful as He is the Master of the Day of
Judgment which encourages believers to seek His mercy and guidance.
2. Muslims should also develop the qualities of kindness and caring towards
others. They should treat everyone kindly without any distinction of class, race
and religion in order to please Allah. 3. This makes us accountable to Allah and
affirms that we are His servants.
4. This passage inspires believers to worship Allah by following the righteous
track of the pious people e.g. prophets.
5. This Surah is considered as a prayer to Allah.
6. Whenever a Muslim is in a difficulty, he recites this Surah and seeks aid from
Allah which certainly Allah delivers as He is the most kind.
7. This surah is essential part of daily prayer as Holy Prophet (PBUH) said, “No
prayer is accepted without Fatiha”. Therefore, Muslims recite this surah inside
and even outside the prayer, for Allah mercy and help.

7. SURAH AL- BAQARAH (2:21 to 22)

21. O people! Adore your Guardian-Lord,Who created you and those who came before you, so that you may
have the chance to learn righteousness; 22. Who has made the earth your couch, and the heavens you
canopy; and sent down rain from the heavens; and by it brought forth fruits for your sustenance; then do
not set up rivals to
Allah, when you know.
(a)
1. The main theme of this passage is Unity and Oneness of Allah (Tawhid). These verses
tell us that Allah is the only Creator and Sustainer of man and everything that exists. Thus
it orders mankind not to associate partners with Allah as it is shirk which is an
unpardonable sin. Holy Qurans says, “Allah forgives not setting up partners with Him,
but He forgives everything else to whom He pleases”

2. These verses also tell that Allah has created Heavens and the Earth to serve humanity.
Heaven has been referred to as a canopy because it provides shelter and shield to the
Earth where human beings live. Allah sends down rain to make the Earth fertile so that
foods and fruits could be grown and hence allows all beings on Earth to survive. These
bounties of Allah remind mankind to be grateful to Allah and use the environment with
respect.

(b)

1. Allah has created everything and he has created a lot for the benefit of mankind
(guidance, fertile earth, shade and water from sky) because He is a loving God. So
we should always praise Allah for His bounties e.g. by looking after the environment
and not polluting it.
2. We should always ask Him for everything because He is a sure provider. He provides
us with sustenance like food and water, which are the by-product of heavens and the
earth. Thus we should be grateful to Him by worshiping him alone.
3. It also suggests that mankind should not commit the greatest sin of associating partners
with God, for He is the only Creator and Sustainer of all that exists. Holy Prophet (PBUH)
said, “Shirk is the greatest of all sins”.

8. SURAH AL- ALAQ (96:1 to 5)

1. Read! in the name of your Lord, who created, 2. Created man out of a clot of congealed blood: 3. Proclaim!

And your Lord is most bountiful, 4. He who taught by the pen, 5.Taught man what he did not
know. (a)
1. This passage is about Allah‟s relation with humans, Who is their Creator and
Teacher.
2. The theme of this Surah is Tawhid that is Oneness of Allah. Allah is the Creator
of man and everything that exists. He has created man out of the insignificant
material which shows His strength to create. He has complete control over
them, and thus is the Most powerful (Omni-potent).
3. Allah has the purest and perfect knowledge of everything. He is Omniscient, as
Ayat-al- Kursi also says: “Nor shall they compass any of his
Knowledge except as He wills". He has taught man with written
knowledge of different things through revelations and Divine books. If this
knowledge had not been granted, man would have been otherwise ignorant of
the right path.
(b)
1. These verses of Surah Al Alaq mentions God‟s power of creation, which is seen
in the way He has created humans from almost nothing. So this strengthens
Muslim belief in Allah and they depend upon Him.
2. This passage starts with the word “Iqra” which means “Read”. Thus it makes
Muslims realize the importance of attaining knowledge.
3. They also realize the significance of Divine books like the Holy Quran which
were revealed to guide them as a result they recite the Holy Quran frequently in
order to follow the straight path of Allah.
4. From this passage, Muslims also recognize the relationship between God and
man as Teacher and student because this is the same knowledge provided by
Allah which makes man superior to other creations and vicegerent of God.

9. SURAH AL- ZILZAL (99)

1. When the earth is shaken to her utmost convulsion, 2. And the earth throws up her burdens, 3. And the
man cries out: „What is the matter with her?‟, 4. On that day will she declare her tidings: 5. For that your
Lord will have given her inspiration. 6. On that day will men proceed in companies sorted out, to be shown
their deeds. 7. Then shall anyone who has done an atom‟s weight of good see it! 8. And anyone who has
done an atom‟s weight of evil
shall see it.
(a)
1. This passage is about God‟s power over all things and the Last Day.
2. On that day earth will be shaken and human beings will be in a state of chaos and
confusion. All this will be by the command of its Creator: Almighty Allah Who is also
the controller of all things and Master of the Day of Judgment.
3. On that day all humans will be sorted out into groups. They will be brought before Allah
to give an account of their worldly deeds, no matter how big or small. The Holy Quran
"Each soul will be paid in full the (fruit of) its deed and Allah knows best all they
do".
4. The earth is treated like a person who will speak out.

(b)

1. The teachings of this surah tell humans that everyone will be judged on the last day.
2. It also makes us realize that this world is temporary and will come to an end one day.
3. On the Last day, humankind will be presented in the court of Allah who will be judged
by Him according to their deeds. Therefore, we should be careful about how to live our
lives as we know that we will be held accountable.
4. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) has said, “This world is a cultivating ground for the
Hereafter”. Thus it motivates us to follow the straight path shown to us by the
Omnipotent Allah through His Books and Prophets and also discourages us from
committing sins. Then we follow the pillars of Islam like prayer and fasting and avoid
using alcohol and pork.
5. The role of earth on the Last day, tells us about its importance and so it should be
looked after e.g. we should not degrade it through deforestation.

10. SURAH AL- NAS (114)

1. Say: I seek refuge with the Lord of mankind, 2. The King of mankind, 3. The God of Mankind, 4. From
the mischief of the whisperer who withdraws, 5. Who whispers into the hearts of mankind, 6. Among
jinns and among mankind.

(a)
1. This is the last Surah of the Holy Quran which tells that Allah is supreme over all
that exists as He is the King and the God of mankind. Therefore, He is the only
One Who can provide protection against the wicked forces (from jinns and
men) who tempt mankind to follow a satanic path.
2. Man is weak and it is easy for the evil forces in this materialistic world to lure him
away from the right path which Allah has given through His Book and the Holy
Prophet (PBUH). Hence only Allah‟s omnipotence can save him from doing
and thinking bad as Sura Al Falaq also says "And say I seek refuge with the
Lord of the Daybreak from the evil that has been created".
(b)

1. This Surah tells Muslims about God‟s power which means He can protect against
everything. 2. His infinite power makes Him a refuge against the evils mentioned and
this sura is specifically recited for protection.
3. This is important for Muslims now who worry about things they think will harm them
in their families or jobs, etc.
4. Muslims usually recite this Surah along with Surah Al Falaq (which also has a
similar theme) to remain in peace through Allah‟s blessings.
