Q1: Describe a situation in which a choice you made was influenced by societal pressures. 

Q2: What sort of career are you interested in? How could studying sociology help you in
this career?

Yes, it happened with me and I think it happens with most of the students like me. The reason
behind this is that there is no career counseling at school and college level. There should be
career counselor at that level so that the individual can decide that in what he/she is interested
and what skills/talent/abilities they have in them. Anyways coming back to my story, when I was
choosing or you can say deciding my degree for bachelors. I wanted to go for “BBA” but the
people around me started demotivating me in such a way that “BBA” doesn’t have any scope
choose some other field, they started telling me about all the negative points like,

 There will be no job opportunities for you in the future.

 Your future will not be secured if you do BBA
 There are a lot of students who are doing this degree so don’t go for this only those who are
below average do this degree.

So this is basically how I was influenced by the society and changed my decision from choosing
BBA to BS Accounting & Finance.

I’m interested in that kind of job where I have audience with whom I can ask questions and
answer to their questions as well means a kind job where I speak, share my ideas, take their
point of views and manage people. It would be a motivational speaker, a lecturer,
supervisor/manager and an anchor person.

Sociology helps me a lot in this fields:

 Sociology helps me to understand different areas weather I have problem at individual

level, group level, and organizational level.
 It helps me to understand different environments because sociology increases the
understanding and power of social action and provide us alternatives.
 Studying sociology enhances our ability to be an active and informed citizen, able to
influence societal choices and policies.
 If I’m managing people, it helps me to deal with them nicely and calmly because
everyone thinks differently so there is a high chance of opposite ideas, thoughts so it
helps me in understanding the opinions on a certain thing.
 Sociology can be helpful for me as a teacher by allowing me to think of each student on
the individual level and cater the curriculum to what each students' needs are. Many
social factors come into play when addressing how a student learns, and by addressing
these factors it's possible for me as a teacher to optimize education for my students.
 It is important to read on Sociology and psychology to understand why a specific cultural
practice started and how it has taken current form or why people in certain circumstances
behave in certain way. It makes a better Reporter and he can structure your investigative
Journalism objectively and present people and culture with justice, will empathies with
interviewees better, we can also raise unbiased ideas to have possible solutions.
