INTRODUCTION TO TECHNOLOGY FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING


- This will explore the basic concepts of technology for teaching and learning, It
encompasses the roles of technology in teaching through defining its domains, it
will inculcates the ICT or Information Communication Technology literacy and to
disclose the roles of ICT in teaching and learning.

I. Basic concepts of Technology for Teaching and Learning


A. Technology – refers to a product used in the application
knowledge like electronic gadgets.
B. Information and Communication – refers to the integration of
knowledge through technology.
C. Educational Technology – refers to the use of technology in
teaching and learning.
D. Technology, Media, and Learning – refers to any types of
learning that accompanied by technology.
E. Instructional System and Instructional Technology – refers to
the systematic theory and practice of processes and resources
of learning.
F. Technology Tools – refers the instrument used for doing work.
1. Data or calculation tools.
2. Design tools.
3. Discussion tools.
4. Email tools.
5. Handheld devices.
II. Roles of Technology for Teaching
A. Technology as tutor – refers to the technology that can support
teacher in helping students to learn better.
B. Technology as a teaching tool – refers to the technology that
can be used as an instrument for in teaching.
C. Technology as a learning tool – refers to the technology that
can make learning easier and more effective.
III. Information and Communication Technology and Literacy or ICT Literacy

ICT literacy is using digital technology, communications tools,


and/or networks to access, manage, integrate, evaluate, and create
information in order to function in a knowledge society
IV. Roles of ICT in teaching and learning
A. Assists students in accessing digital efficiently and
effectively.
B. Supports student-centered and self-directed learning.
C. Produces a creative learning environment.
D. Promotes collaborative learning in a distance-learning
environment.
E. Offer more opportunities to develop critical thinking skills.
