USE OF TECHNOLOGY IN

EDUCATION AND RESEARCH

Course Objectives:
The course is designed to introduce the theories and principles for the development,
design, implementation of technology in the instruction, evaluation, professional
development and educational research.
On completion of the course, the students will be able to:
 Understand the concept of the use of technology in education
 Understand the use technology and related tools for the purpose of educational
research
 Understand the use technology for effective classroom instruction.
 Understand the importance of different resources of Educational Technology
in education.
 Understand the use of technology for students’ evaluation.
 Understand the utility of technology for educational administration and
leadership
 Comprehend the necessity of technology for professional development of
teachers
 Understand challenges or hindrances in the use of technology in educational
setting.

Unit- I. Fundamental Concepts in the use of technology in education


 Educational Technology: Concept, nature, scope and significance of
technology in education and its role in modern educational practices
 Approaches of technology in education: Hardware, Software and System
approach.
 Historical development of Educational Technology –Programmed learning,
Media Application and Computer application
 Emerging trends in technology in education.
Unit- II. Multi Media and ICT Tools
 Concept and importance of ICT
 Multimedia: Concept, nature and uses.
 Educational Multimedia-concept and technology, Application of Multimedia.
 Media selection: Integration and evaluation; Factors affecting media selection-

 Effective classroom communication-Modes, Process & Barriers.

Unit- III. Behavioural and Instructional Technology


 Modalities and strategies of teaching
 Modification of Teaching Behaviour: Micro-teaching, Flander’s Interaction
Analyses, Simulation
 Models of Teaching- Concept, Different Families, Information Processing
Family
 Programmed Instruction-origin, types; Linear and Branching, Development
of programmed instruction material- Linear and Branching; Computer
Assisted Instruction (CAI)

Unit- IV. Resources in technology and ICT


 Audio/Radio Broadcast /Video/Educational Television and CCTV –
concepts, uses and limitations.
 Teleconferencing, Video conferencing, Learning Resource Centres-
Internet and Intranet (Tools, services and Educational sites).
 EDUSAT and Animation Films – its uses for the development of children
imagination
 Virtual reality, Mobile Learning and other Interactive technologies.
 3D visualization tools
Unit – V. Technology for professional Development, Evaluation and Assessment
 Technology recourses for professional development and lifelong learning
 ICT and personal and professional productivity
 communication with stakeholders for improving students learning
 Integrate technology to investigate the diverse needs of learners in a variety of
educational settings.
 Use of technology for evaluation, assessment of students
 Reforming examination system through technology

 Varied teaching practices and encouraging environment keeping in view sensitivity
of diversity.

 Wastage of time, money and resources, decline in writing skills
 Health related issues of technology
