Question:

1. Which of the organic compound did not dissolve in water but dissolve in
chloroform? Explain why.

Styrofoam did not dissolved in water but it dissolves in chloroform because both
of them is non polar solvent. Styrofoam is made from polystyrene and foam. Due
to their similar polarities, it can dissolve the carbon-hydrogen bonds of
Styrofoam.

2.What is the role of NaCI in salting-out effect?

The role of NaCl in salting-out effect is to decrease the solubility of protein. Ehen
we add salt, the charged ions interact with water. This means that there are less
solvent water molecules to interact with the protein. As a result, protein
molecules begin to aggregate, which cause precipitation.
