SECOND PRESIDENT MIGUEL MALVAR?

A controversial part of Philippine history is the list of "unofficial" presidents of our

country that, up until now, are still not verified. In line with this, one person left an

impression on me: Miguel Malvar Y Carpio. On 1865 September 27, Malvar was born during

the colonization of the Spaniards. Although he came from a wealthy family, he fights for our

nation's freedom from foreign control. If we talk about the contribution and the acts Malvar

made, I commend his brave actions and his will to free ourselves from the conquerors.

From the revolution when he gathered his troupes and went to Mt. Makiling, to when

the Biak na Bato negotiations took place, also to when he returned to the Philippines when

when the Americans came our land in 1898. Malvar went from place to place to defend the

cities. Malvar's army participated in guerrilla warfare against the Americans, and he is one

reason why the independence happened in Kawit. He never gave up fighting for our land's

freedom that was under slavery for 300 years. The Spaniards and Americans weren't able to

make him surrender, not until his wife, Maloles, talked to him in 1902.

was held captured by the US troops in March 1901, Malvar was considered as the one next in

line. Therefore, he went full command on July 31, commanding all forces left to continue to

fight. If we follow the constitution, Malvar should be considered the Philippines' Second

President rather than Manuel L. Quezon. Also, after his surrender, a civil government was

instituted in Batangas in 1902. If not, he can also be considered as one of the greatest

generals we ever had.
