Record- To demonstrate my development in this competency, my Weebly website from Tch Lrn

445 is a great example. This website serves as a resource to families and other educators as it
has information about me, contact information, links and descriptions about great resources
and visuals. The tools and resources linked on my page all can be utilized for different reasons,
but they all share the commonality of enhancing learning for students. In Tch and Lrn 310 for
portfolio B the assignment instructions were to make a plan for home communication with
families that was accessible, convenient and flexible. For this assignment I elaborated on the
importance of building positive relationships with families right from the start in hopes that this
would make me more approachable over the school year so that families feel comfortable
reaching out to me and see me as a resource who is there to support them and their child. By
establishing relationships, I then can act as a resource for students and advocate for them
based on circumstances they are currently facing.
Reflect- Looking back on my Weebly after completing it a year ago made me really think about
what else I could add to it to make it more of a way to collaborate with other educators or staff
and community members. While my website serves as a tool for myself and others, I could
make it more interactive by having a Google form linked where individuals can submit
resources or organizations that I can include on the Weebly for others to see and have access
to. After looking at my Portfolio B from classroom management I would have liked to have
added more about what I could do for the parents of ELL students. Now thinking about what
that would look like could be sending forms home in their native language, translating emails
and offering translation services in person through a program on a device or with an actual
person if available. how to foster communication between other staff members at the school
to benefit students in my classroom and not just with families at home.
Analyze- My Weebly demonstrates my knowledge of the different uses of various technologies,
resources and tools and how they all can be used to enhance the learning and school
experience as a whole for my students. I can use these resources to connect families to
academic help for their students, to help ELL students with language support and different
learning activities through videos. All of these resources can be used to differentiate
instruction for students based on individual needs which is crucial to do with ELL students as
they are at varying English proficiency levels. In my Tch and Lrn 310 final I was able to come up
with ways to effectively, frequently and positively communicate with families. These ways that
I came up with to communicate with families can also apply to other educators and staff
members who are also working with my students. I can put them on Class Dojo, stay in contact
through email or text and tell them when my meeting times are after school so they can always
find me when I am available. By doing this, I can keep communication open with families and
other educators which will lead to being in the loop so that I can best serve the unique needs of
each student and their family. Communication with the families of ELL students can be hard to
foster as language can be a barrier so it is crucial that I make it a top priority.
Act- Going forward into my teaching career it is crucial that I continue to develop my
communication skills so that I can serve students, their families and other educators to the best
of my abilities. I plan to really dig into how I can reach and support all students in the
classroom and school community.
