Record- During my advanced practicum I was observed by my field supervisor for two lessons

where she gave me an immense amount of feedback to help me grow. In this feedback, my
supervisor noted how I differentiated instruction for students and gave the whole class
opportunities to give their input and make decisions during the lessons, therefore utilizing
student voice. I used color coordinating to make connections clear for students, white boards
and counting manipulatives all to demonstrate math problems in a visual way to make an
abstract concept like addition and subtraction feel more concrete. While teaching a writing
lesson, I defined tough words and showed students pictures while we were reading a story to
make sure all students knew what those terms meant. Then after the lesson when students
were independently working, they still had the option to use manipulatives of their choice or a
white board to draw out pictures to help them solve problems. In Tch and Lrn 445 for our final
we reflected on how we could effectively use technology in our classrooms to differentiate
instruction and about different assistive technologies that we could use to improve learning for
all students. This paper demonstrates my knowledge of the benefits of differentiation,
application of concepts and theories.
Reflect- While being observed and after when I was reflecting, I felt both supported and
challenged in the best way. Feedback from my experienced field supervisor and mentor
teacher combined gave me a great information for what to keep up in the future and things to
add going forward. My supervisor really made me think about what went well and how I could
better help serve students in the future. I think I did a good job giving all students, no matter
their proficiency level in English, an equitable opportunity to be involved and learn. I would
define hard words during the lessons for all students, but I could have looked ahead and
thought of words that might stump the one ELL student in the class and go over those words
with him beforehand or used visuals to define them in the lesson. The Tch and Lrn 445 final
really made me think about how to best serve each student in the classroom and the different
ways that technology can help to support differentiation while learning.
Analyze- My observation notes are important because they pointed out what I did well so that I
can continue to do and what I need to work on in the future for lessons to go better for
students. These notes show that I broke things down for students to understand which can be
applicable to any content area including language acquisition. Without feedback from others, I
would not be able to grow and would be stuck in the same rut of ideas. By having someone
else watch me and critique my teaching strategies, I can be made aware of things I do
subconsciously or even any implicit bias that I may have that could be putting certain groups of
students at a disadvantage. As for my Tch Lrn 445 final helped me to really identify what
systems I could specifically use to improve engagement and learning for students in my class.
Had I not had this class to introduce me to these different technology programs and sites I
would never have known about them to use with my students in class. Technology is often
seen as something that can take away and distract students from learning but if used with rules
and utilized as a tool it can really enhance learning opportunities for all students. Technology
can help to differentiate instruction from whole group, to small group, to pairs or independent
work time depending on the tool that is used and my Tch and Lrn 445 final helped me to
recognize what technology can be used when with students to enhance learning and
differentiate instruction.
Act- In the future, I plan to use everything that I learned in 445 to help me integrate technology
into my classroom as one way to differentiate instruction for students. By doing this, I can
reach more students by keeping them involved and actively engaged in lessons. While teaching
a writing lesson, my field supervisor suggested that I color code each sentence so they can see
what a sentence looks like and exactly how many they need to have just by looking at the board
which I plan to utilize in the future. I plan to continue to explore to find new resources that can
be used in the classroom to switch up instruction for students who need additional support.
