DON SALVADOR BENEDICTO

Negros Occidental

I'm from the province of Negros Occidental.

One of the most beautiful travel destinations that
I've been to is Don Salvador Don Salvador
Benedicto (DSB), a town located in the mountains
of Negros Occidental that is dubbed as the summer
capital of Negros Occidental. Many tourists come
to visit Don Salvador due to its cool weather and
beautiful mountain views.

The youngest municipality of Negros

Occidental, Don Salvador Benedicto more popularly
known for its acronym “DSB” is situated 2,495
feet above sea level at the mid-center of the
province, 47 kilometers of good highway from
capital city, Bacolod. Its composite
jurisdiction includes two barangays (barrios)
from Murcia town, three from San Carlos City and Little Baguio
two of Calatrava "Summer Capital of Negros Occidental

Established as a town in
1983, it was intended to
consolidate the area into a
separate and independent
local government unit to
counter the insurgency
concentrated here. The town
got its name in honor of the
late Vice-Governor Salvador
Benedicto, who was part in
setting the Revolutionary
Government of Negros Island
and Siquijor during the
Japanese occupation last
World War II.

Postive Impacts
1.Tourism has a positive impact on the
environment in the conservation of
important natural areas. The Society
for Sustainable Tourism & Development,
Inc. or SSTD, proposed tourism,
conservation and social responsibility
together with institutional partners,
Green Hotels, The Clean Blue & Zero
Carbon Resort, which espouse
sustainable tourism, cultural,
culinary, and conservation experiences
in Don Salvador Benedicto. One of the
objects of this project is to conserve
the natural park in Don Salvador
Bendicto. Governor Alfredo Maranon
voted yes to the demolition of the
illegal structures in the multiple use
zone of the Northern Negros Natural
Park (NNNP) protected area.

2. It has a positive impact on the

conservation of archaeological and
historical sites. The province's
Revolutionary Government's strongholds
during the Japanese Occupation until
now are the Don Salvador Benedicto
Monument, the picturesque mountain
ranges of Mt. Mandalagan and Mt. Canla-
on, the remarkable Rice Terraces, a
mini-replica of Banaue's, the alluring
Malatan-og Falls amidst the lush green
forest, and the 45-meter Hanging Bridge
at Barangay Igmaya-an These are what
tourism protecting and cconserving, so
Dsb officials gave a talk and
presentation on Sustainable Tourism &
Best Green Hospitality Practices,
emphasizing the need to conserve its
natural resources and giving careful
consideration to the local community
while embarking on new tourism
development to ensure its
sustainability for future generations.
Postive Impacts
3 .Don Salvador Benedicto began to be
herded by local tourists who enjoy
their leeway and mountain views, and
the increase in tourists has also
resulted in the development of
infrastructure such as resorts, café
shops, and other hospitality
businesses. DSB is home to
restaurants, cafes, and eateries
situated in delightful mountainous
sceneries with mostly chilling
weather conditions. The tourism
income also comes from street vendors
and informal guides. The positive
aspect of this business is that money
returns to the local economy and has
a great multiple effect. The cafe
shop and resort have contributed to
the economy by paying taxes.

4.Due to the development of

infrastructures, resorts, and business
shops, it has resulted in the generation
of employment. The locals have an
opportunity to have a job because of
employment demand. The businesses and
resorts need staff to operate and
accommodate the guests. If employment
opportunities are generated, then more
people in the local area will be
employed, which leads to an increase in
income level. Thus, it reduces the level
of poverty. Since Don Salvador Bendicto
has a lot of tourist spots like cafés,
private farms, and resorts, examples of
these are Stone Peak Café, which is
popular in Dsb, the resort which is
Lavista Highland, and Grace Land Hotel
Resort.
Positive Impacts

5. Don Salvador, tourism is appreciating the culture and

products in their place. There is also a positive impact of
tourism in Don Salvador Benedicto, which is the renewal of
culture by showcasing the products of the seven barangays of
Don Salvador, which is called The Agro-Trade Fair. Visitors
get a chance to buy various agricultural products such as root
crops, fruits and vegetables at farm gate prices. Yakon, which
is known to thrive only in cold climates, thrives well in Don
Salvador. The opening of the 20th Kali-Kalihan Harvest
Festival and 27th Founding Anniversary of Don Salvador
Benedicto on Saturday, February 6. One of the highlights of
the event is the Agro-Trade Fair.
Negative Impacts

1.Due to the increased

development of infrastructure,
businesses such as café shops
and street vendors, and
tourists, the common reason for
tourists to visit Don Salvador
Benedicto is to unwind and road
trip they travel with use
vehicles that visited Don
Salvador Benedicto can cause air
pollution, and the more tourists
visit, the more air gets highly
contaminated.

2.The construction of
infrastructure for businesses and
resorts requires a specific site,
which is exactly what happened in
Don Salvador Benedicto. According
to the news, an accident caused
nearly half a hectare of mountains
was burned. It's impossible since
accidents happen, starting with
burning leaves that result in the
destruction of about half a hectare
of land. The main reason it is
happening is in order to construct
infrastructure and businesses. This
can have a negative impact on the
environment due to the clearing of
trees. This can cause calamities
and floods that can affect the
livelihoods of locals.
Negative Impacts
3.Donsalvador is popular for its
fresh air, peaceful environment,
and nice views. Some of the houses
there are rest house for wealthy
people. The inflation in land
prices and houses also has a
negative effect in Don Salvador
Benidicto. Common people who live
there are locals and some wealthy
people who can afford to build a
rest house there. The increasing
price of land and houses has also
resulted in an increasing price of
grocery foods that can impact the
locals that live there. The price of
land in Don Salvador Benedicto in a
slope type of lot with fantastic
view of Mt Canlaon and Mandalagan
Cause P2,800/sqm minimum cut of
800sqm and a regular lots cost at
2,800 per square. 4. Illegal tree cutting is
one of the problems IN Don
Salvador Benedicto. They
use trees to make products,
construct infrastructure,
and create charcoal. Tree
cutting may result in the
loss of habitat for animal
species, causing
environmental damage. Trees
can aid in the prevention
of disasters such as floods
and landslides.
Negative Impacts

5.The overuse of the natural environment by tourists

can lead to ecological damage. This happened in Don
Salvador Benedicto, which is Two tourism
establishments in the mountain town of Don Salvador
Benedicto in Negros Occidental were temporarily
closed on Wednesday after a landslide occurred in the
area due to heavy rains. These included Kurvada Café
and Balay sa Busay Guest House, where some 20 guests
were rescued by personnel of the Municipal Disaster
Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) on that
day. Due to the occurrence of a fortuitous event in
your area, where this establishment was built and is
doing business, that may cause danger to our
constituents and visitors, this local government unit
has temporarily closed.
Solutions

1.Air pollution is a common problem in tourist

areas, and we cannot stop tourists from going there
without using vehicles. Tourism should remind
tourists before going there to make sure that
vehicles such as buses, taxes, rental cars, and
private cars are properly maintained to prevent air
and noise pollution.

2.To avoid deforestation or tree removal for

building sites, the government should get the
necessary permits and follow the proper
procedures when constructing infrastructure.,
The owner should obtain a permit proving that
the land on which they intend to construct a
structure is legal.
Solutions

3.The inflation of price of land in every tourist

destination is common. However, given its complex and
dynamic forms of land use, tourism development also causes
changes to land-use demands and patterns in tourist
regions, which directly and indirectly interfere with
local environments. One popular method of controlling
inflation is through a contractionary monetary policy. The
goal of a contractionary policy is to reduce the money
supply within an economy by decreasing bond prices and
increasing interest rates

4.Many of the trees we use in our homes and daily lives take
hundreds of years to mature, making them a nonrenewable
resource. This means they can't be replaced easily or
rapidly. These trees are critical to the survival of life in
their habitats as well as on our entire planet. It's over
for them, and it's over for us. In order to solve this
problem in Don Salvador Bendicto, which is illegal cutting
of trees. Tourism should pay attention to this issue because
it is about nature. They should implement programs that
could benefit the environment, like planting trees. It is a
common program, but I know it can help. The trees that
should allow the government to cut are planted by the
people, not trees that naturally grow. They should remind
and give warning to the locals and also to the owners of
other businesses.
Solutions

5.Like what happened in Don Salvador Benidicto, two

tourism establishments in the mountain town of Don
Salvador Benedicto in Negros Occidental were temporarily
closed on Wednesday after a landslide occurred in the
area due to heavy rains. The solution to this accident
is the application of proper architectural design
standards so that the structures in tourist areas will
be architecturally and environmentally compatible. This
also includes applying appropriate design standards to
control the location and size of advertising signs.
Proper site planning, designing, and engineering of
tourist facilities also helps reduce damage from
environmental hazards such as earthquakes, tsunamis,
high winds, rainfall, and other hazards that may occur.
