Forgot to Change Engine Oil

Oil is an important component in vehicles as a lubricant, protector, cleaner, and engine
coolant. This is intended so that the vehicle is not damaged and lasts a long time. With the
many functions of oil for vehicles, it can be seen that the oil must be treated properly.
The volume of oil in the vehicle, including the motor, will continue to decrease. Fast or slow
reduction in the volume of the liquid depends on the intensity of vehicle use. Therefore, avoid
being late for an oil change because it can cause the following adverse effects :
1. Uncomfortable Sounds and Vibrations
2. Engine Performance Decrease
3. Wasteful Fuel

Here's how to overcome if the motor runs out of oil :

1. Check the Valve Seal
Do not let this seal be damaged or torn. If this happens, most likely there will be an oil leak in
your motorcycle engine.
2. Regular oil change
This is done so that your motorized vehicle does not run out of oil, because it can be fatal to
the motorbike you have.
3. Use the appropriate oil for its purpose
If you use an automatic motorbike, use a special oil for an automatic motorbike, also pay
attention to the level of viscosity of the oil, use an oil that is SAE (Society of Automotive
Engineers) according to your motorbike.
4. Pay attention to the piston ring
If the piston ring is damaged or worn the only thing you have to do is check whether the
piston ring on your motorcycle is damaged or not.
5. Use the vehicle as needed
If your motorbike has a capacity of only 110cc, adjust the motor speed according to your
motorbike.
The way to prevent this is by using an innovation created by three PENS students who are
members of the Student Creativity Program (PKM) team, making I - Mode (Integrity of
Motorcycle Oil Detector Automation) an oil condition detection device without having to
open the dipstick in the motorcycle oil tank. I – Mode consists of sensors, myRIO, and LCD.
The sensor functions to record vibration and sound signals from the motorcycle when the
engine is started and the gas is being driven. Meanwhile, the myRIO microprocessor serves
as a data retrieval platform for vibration and sound signals.
After the vibration and sound signals have been successfully recorded, the next process is
signal processing, namely feature extraction to distinguish and pattern recognition to classify
oil conditions. The result of the oil condition will be displayed on the LCD attached to the I –
Mode tool. In addition, it will also be sent to the owner via SMS notification as a reminder
for oil changes.
I – Mode has been tested on automatic motorcycles, made from 2008 to 2018 with 100%
accuracy. Febrina Syafitri, Rachmad Kusumardana and Faisa Lailiyul Muthoaffifah, this
team of work-makers from the Mechatronics Engineering department have conducted a
survey in one of the workshops in Surabaya and the workshop offered cooperation to
facilitate oil changes.

Oli merupakan komponen penting dalam kendaraan sebagai pelumas, pelindung, pembersih,
dan pendingin mesin. Hal ini dimaksudkan agar kendaraan tidak rusak dan tahan lama.
Dengan banyaknya fungsi oli bagi kendaraan, maka dapat diketahui bahwa oli harus dirawat
dengan baik.
Volume oli dalam kendaraan, termasuk motor, akan terus berkurang. Cepat atau lambatnya
pengurangan volume cairan tersebut tergantung pada intensitas pemakaian kendaraan. Oleh
sebab itu, hindari telat ganti oli karena dapat menyebabkan dampak buruk sebagai berikut :
1. Suara dan Getaran yang Membuat Tidak Nyaman
2. Penurunan Kinerja Mesin
3. Bahan Bakar Boros

Berikut ini cara mengatasi jika motor kehabisan oli :

1.Periksa Seal Kelep
Jangan sampai seal ini rusak atau robek. Jika hal ini terjadi, kemungkinan besar akan terjadi
kebocoran oli pada mesin motor anda.
2.Rutin ganti oli
Hal ini dilakukan agar kendaraan bermotor anda tidak kehabisan oli, karena bisa berkibat
fatal pada motor yang anda miliki.
3.Pakai oli yang sesuai peruntukannya
Kalau kamu pakai motor matic gunakan oli khusus untuk motor matic, perhatikan juga
tingkat kekentalan olinya, gunakan oli yang SAEnya (Society of Automotive Engineers)
sesuai dengan motor kamu.
4.Perhatikan ring piston
Apabila ring piston rusak ataupun aus satu-satunya yang anda harus lakukan adalah
memerikasa apakah ring piston pada motor anda rusak atau tidak.
5.Gunakan kendaraan sesuai kebutuhan
Jika motor kamu kapasitasnya hanya 110cc, atur kecepatan motor yang sesuai dengan motor
kamu.

Untuk cara mencegahnya yaitu dengan menggunakan inovasi yang diciptakan oleh tiga
mahasiswa PENS yang tergabung dalam tim Program Kreativitas Mahasiswa (PKM),
membuat I – Mode (Integrity of Motorcycle Oil Detector Otomatisasi) sebuah alat pendeteksi
kondisi oli tanpa harus membuka dipstick di tank oli sepeda motor. I – Mode terdiri dari
sensor , myRIO, dan LCD. Sensor berfungsi untuk merekam sinyal getaran dan suara dari
sepeda motor saat mesin dinyalakan dan gas dalam keadaan dipacu. Sedangkan,
mikroprosesor myRIO berfungsi sebagai platform pengambilan data sinyal getaran dan suara.
Setelah sinyal getaran dan suara berhasil direkam, proses berikutnya adalah pengolahan
sinyal yaitu ekstraksi fitur untuk membedakan dan pengenalan pola untuk mengklasifikasikan
kondisi oli. Hasil kondisi oli akan ditampilkan di LCD yang terpasang pada alat I – Mode.
Selain itu juga akan dikirimkan pada pemilik via notifikasi sms sebagai pengingat
penggantian oli.
I – Mode sudah teruji di motor matic, buatan tahun 2008 hingga 2018 dengan akurasi 100%.
Febrina Syafitri, Rachmad Kusumardana dan Faisa Lailiyul Muthoaffifah, tim pembuat karya
dari jurusan Teknik Mekatronika ini sudah melakukan survey di salah satu bengkel di
Surabaya dan pihak bengkel tersebut menawarkan kerjasama untuk mempermudah
penggantian oli.
