What is STI?

Sexually Transmitted Infection or also known as Sexually Transmitted Disease

(STD) is a communicable disease that is spread by a PATHOGEN an organism or

bacteria that causes disease to our body.

Sexually Transmitted Disease (STI) are transmitted through sexual contact

and non-sexual contact.

Four Body Fluids known to Transmit STI/HIV

1. Blood

2. Semen

3. Vaginal/Cervical Fluid

4. Breastmilk

What are the signs and symptoms of STI’s?

Common signs and symptoms of STI’s

1. Yellowish/Abnormal Discharge from the genital

2. Rashes
3. Warts

4. Painful Urination

5. Blisters or sores in the genital area

6. Flu like symptoms

Five common Sexually Transmitted Infection

1. CHLAMYDIA -caused by Chlamydia Trachomatis Bacterium

 Long Term Effects in Women:

a. Pelvic Inflammation with Abdominal pain

b. Fever Menstrual Bleeding

c. Ectopic Pregnancy

 Long Term Effects in Male:

a. Enlarged Lymph glands of the groin

b. Infection of the testicles

c. Infection during birth that can cause blindness or illness in

newborn.

2. GENITAL HERPES -Herpes Simplex 2 Virus

-Cervical cancer

-Deformities in Unborn babies

3. GONORRHEA -caused by Neisseria Gonorrhea Bacterium

 Long term effects are:

Sterility, liver Disease, Testicular disease, infection of the heart

lining, eye infection for newborn leading to blindness.

4. SYPHILIS -Treponema Pallidum Bacterium

If this STI is untreated it may lead to:

a. Mental Illness
b. Heart and kidney damage

AIDS- Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome

-  is a chronic, potentially life-threatening condition caused by the human

immunodeficiency virus

Early symptoms of HIV are:

-Rashes, sore throat, fever, tiredness
