LEARNING ACTIVITY SHEETS

Title: Plan unit assembly to ensure OHS policies and procedures

Background Information for Learners

Welcome to the Learning Activity Sheet (LAS) “Assemble Computer Hardware”. This
learning activity sheet contains background information, learning competency code,
directions, instructions, acitivities, guide questions, rubric, reflection and references for the
learners to complete core competencies of “Install and Configure Computer Systems”

You are required to go through a series of learning activities in order to complete each topics
of the (LAS). Follow these activities on your own and answer the activity evaluation at the
end of each learning activity.

If you have questions, don’t hesitate to ask your teacher for assistance.

Assembling computer hardware can be very exciting, but without proper unit assembly
planning and ensuring OHS policies and procedures are followed in accordance with systems
requirements, it will cause you a lot of headaches, money and energy. If you don’t plan well
with your computer assembly. Just like a carpenter requires the proper planning for building a
house to avoid future accidents and related health problems, you are going to plan and ensure
OHS policies and procedures to follow in accordance with systems requirements for your
computer assembly. Computer assembly requires plan occupational health and safety
procedures to avoid future problems and well-planned to bring out the best sophisticated
technological outputs.

Before, putting all together the parts of a desktop computer to assemble it. A future computer
technician like you must consider to plan and OHS policies, procedures must be observed.
Remember the parts of the computer as a whole is electronics and sensitive to any
mishandling that will results waste of time and money. But nowadays, there are many simple
steps and procedures that you can follow and plan to utilize in the assembly process.
Following these procedures appropriately can lead to each and everyone to be successful in
computer hardware assembly.

Learning Competency with code

1. Plan unit assembly to ensure OHS policies and procedures are followed in accordance
with systems requirements (TLE_IACSS9- 12ICCS-Ia-e-28)

Directions/Instructions:
Identify, read and understand the prepared activities that will enrich your knowledge in plan
unit assembly with Occupational Health and Safety procedures and policies. Answer it
honestly.
Activity 1: Practice the “New Normal” preventative measures in your activities; refer to
health protocols at the closure section of this activity.
A. 15 Occupational Health And Safety Procedure

Reminders! Plan before you start working on your computer tower or any equipment to keep
both your unit and yourself safe. And always remember on these “doesn’t fit doesn’t belong”.

1. Read and follow instruction on the manual carefully.

2. Do not work alone so that there’s someone who can take care of you in case of
accident or emergency.
3. Always power off and unplug the computer before working on it.
4. Take off any metal objects on your arms or fingers such as bracelets, rings or
watches. Even if your unit is unplugged, there may still be some remaining
electric charge.
5.  Always ground or discharge yourself before touching any part of the computer
(such as the computer casing) and make sure your hands are completely dry to
avoid damaging any mechanical parts as well as to avoid electrocution.
6. Be careful with the tools that may cause short circuit (such as screw drivers)
7. Handle all parts with care. Place each piece you remove carefully down onto a
stable surface, if a component does not come out easily, do not use excessive
force if things don’t quite slip into place or when you’re removing it. Instead,
check if you are removing it correctly and no wires still connected in the
hardware.
8. Always full the cable connector on the handle and not on the cable itself
9. Be sure you’re standing in a dry place and use only rubber shoes when standing
on the ground or in a concrete floor.
10. Make sure that the pins are properly aligned when connecting a cable
connector.
11. Take away any liquid such as mineral water or soft drinks near your working
area or near computers, the three of the most damaging things to a computer are
moisture (sweat, drinking water), shock (electric or from being dropped) and
dust (any debris from household dust to bits of food).
12. Personal protective equipment is correctly used in accordance with organization
OHS procedures and practice.
13. Hazard/risks in the workplace and their corresponding indicators are identified
to minimize or eliminate risk to co-workers, workplace and environment.
14. Take necessary precautions to protect the component of the computer from
damaged cause by Electrostatic Discharge (ESD).
15.  Hold the components by edges and do not touch the IC’s.
B. Spot the Hazard (hazard identification)

How many violations of Safety Standards can you find?at least 10.

Activity 2: Practice the “New Normal” preventative measures in your activities; refer to
health protocols at the closure section of this activity.

Remembering the hazards that you experienced in your house, neighbours, community,
churches, and school, have you seen some violations in occupational health and safety
policies and procedures. Have you seen some posters or placards in your house, community?
These are some of the ways that the people using to understand by the community. Can you
name some of your observations and real life experiences in terms of safety standards and
hazards identification? Lets take a look of this initiative in behalf of the activities below.

A. Write three (3) OHS standards written in your language or in your community.
Analyze the contents of the words, pictures, symbols use. Give your own observations
from the placards and posters. Use the table to complete your activity.

B. From your interpretation and illustration of recorded placard / poster that you
completed. Accomplish first survey about this selected five (5) respondents (Barangay
Captain, Church Leader, SK Chairman, Health Worker, Father, etc.). Put a check
(_/_) tick a number, 5 highest and 1 is the lowest.

Activity 4: Practice the “New Normal” preventative measures in your activities; refer to
health protocols at the closure section of this activity.

Based on your observations, experiences in safety and health and following policies and
procedures, how did you record accident report? In this activity, you will create a scenario to
Conduct a simulation on: “Applying OHS Policies and Procedures”. Group yourself
according to your available numbers. Make a plan of your simulation. Conduct your selected
topics. Report your completed plan to the class. You will fill up the form honestly.

1. Choose an industry or type of workplace e.g. computer laboratory, computer

manufacturing, or a computer shop.
2. Make a list of hazards that may be present in that workplace e.g. slippery floors from
spilt water, oil etc; uneven floors from changing floor level. Use the Table below.
3. Describe the risks.
4. Write down ways to control the risks.

GUIDE QUESTIONS:

1.) Why is it necessary to include OHS in your plan unit assembly?

2.) How do you plan to implement the OHS in your planning techniques?
3.) Can you show how to apply OHS in unit assembly successfully?
4.) If there was an accident in the work area, how do you prepare accident report
according to systems requirements?
Answer the above questions in the blank space provided below, after the activity:

Closure
As learners, it is important to plan ahead before unit assembly will take place in the
workplace or you maybe has plan to build your own computer within your budget, to avoid
expenses and breakdowns of the computer and spending a lot of money for repair and parts
replacements., As a technician, you must practice Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) to
follow procedures in accordance with systems requirements. You should familiarize the
materials, equipments, supplies, and most of all the tools, so that when you implement the
plan, things will go smoothly, planning the work intelligently and work the plan and using the
smart procedures.

Preventative Measures for Learners in a “New Normal” in school*

 Regularly and thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water for least 20 seconds
or clean them with an alcohol-based hand rub.
 Avoid close contact with people who are sick (this may include avoiding hugging,
chatting, or other customary greetings).
 Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
 Stay home when you are sick.
 Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash or
sneezing or coughing into your elbow
 Maintain at least six feet (two meters) distance between yourself and anyone who is
coughing or sneezing.
 Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household
cleaning spray or wipe.
 Follow public health agency recommendations for using a face mask.
Learners should encourage other students to follow these guidelines.
