Lab Adjacent channel interference

Adjacent channel interference steps

1. With the CMU on Channel 62 (947.4MHz DL), and generator off set CMU200 for 0.1% BER and
record the TCH level.
2. Now set the generator to the adjacent channel 947.2MHz and slowly increasing the generator
level to the point where the 0.1% BER starts to increase. Record the generator level and take
screen shots of the CMU showing TCH level and generator.
3. Now set the generator to the alternate adjacent channel 947.6MHz and slowly increasing the
generator level to the point where the 0.1% BER starts to increase. Record the generator level
and take screen shots of CMU showing TCH level and generator.
4. Repeat the same test on the centre channel of the GSM850

CMU was set at 947.4 MHz channel 62 downlink frequency 900 band
Tch level -115.1 dBm at 0.1 % BER

Signal generator was set at adjacent channel 61 at frequency 947.2 MHz

and amplitude was increased until knee of the error curve was found at
-79dBm. At this level, the signal kept increasing until the call got dropped.
FM deviation was set at 100kHz

The interfering signal was increased by -115.1-(-79) = 36.1dB

When the amplitude was further increased error kept increasing until the
call was eventually dropped.
Signal generator was set at frequency 947.6 MHz channel 63 (adjacent to
channel 62) of 900 band

Amplitude of the FM wave was recorded as -49.9 dBm at FM deviation of

100kHz
The knee of the error curve was recorded, snapshot shown below

Here the interfering signal was increased by -115.1-(-49.9) =65.2 dB

When the amplitude was further increased error kept increasing until the
call was eventually dropped.
For GSM 850 band channel chosen was 189 at frequency of 881.4 MHz

Tch level recorded at -104.3 dBm as shown below

Tch level was recorded as -104.3 dBm
RF generator frequency was set at channel 188 with a frequency of 881.2
MHz and amplitude was increased to -82 dBm when the BER started to
increase continuously

Hence, the interfering signal was increased by -104.3-(-82) =22.3 dB

RF was again set at 881.6 0MHz (channel 190) and amplitude of the wave
increased to -47.3 dBm where the BER increased continuously.

Here the knee of the error curve was observed when interference was
increased by -104.3-(-47.3) =57 dB
