CHS PROUD Pioneer Band Travel Rules

These rules apply to all whenever we are traveling to competitions or other venues. Please follow
the guidelines below on what to bring, what not to bring, and travel etiquette.
Intentional infringements of any of the following guidelines will result in consequences.

COVID-19 Guidelines
All students, parents, and volunteers must wear face coverings at all times, except while eating or
drinking water. While on the bus, you are NOT allowed to eat. Prior to drinking water, ensure
that you are socially distanced from others before removing your mask. If you experience any
Covid-19 related symptoms, report them to Mr. I immediately.

Do:
● Be prompt to call time
● Everything you bring must fit into one backpack
● If you require prescription medication, you must bring it, and check in with Mr. I so he is
aware you are carrying it.
● Wear clothing that goes under your uniform on the bus (Travel T-shirt, shorts/leggings,
marching shoes, black socks, etc.)
● Prepare for cold weather after the performance (blankets, jackets, sweatpants, etc.)
● After returning to CHS, check that you have all of your belongings, and pick up any trash
before exiting the bus. You must help with cleanup.
● Maintain good hygiene
● Stay in your seat while the bus is moving

Do Not:
● No sugary or caffeinated beverages (energy drinks, milk tea, coffee, tea, etc.)
● No cans, only resealable liquid containers
● No nail polish
● No eye makeup (with exception of the Color Guard)
● No jewelry

Checklist (not all items are applicable to everyone):


● Travel Tee
● Marching shoes
● Black socks
● Uniform (with Performance Gloves, Shako, and Wristbands)
● Hair off of the uniform collar (bring hairspray, hair ties, bobby pins, etc.)
● Color Guard Uniform
● Phone Charger & Cable
● Small flashlight or headlamp (it will be dark when we leave).
Competition Timeline and Directions

Loading the Bus


● Saxophones, Trumpets, Mellophones, Baritones, and Tuba instruments will be loaded in
the bus cargo bays. Flutes and Clarinets will be stored on board the bus in the overhead
compartments.
● Uniform bags will be hung on the aisle rail.
● Shakos will be loaded in the bus cargo bay.
● Students will board the bus by class, with the exception of the Color Guard who will
board the bus first so they can sit together in the back.

While on the Bus


● Buses are expected to remain clean. Food is not to be eaten on the bus. No caffeinated
nor energy drinks are allowed. Only drinks in plastic resealable containers are allowed.
● Wait until you are off the bus before spraying hair spray or Febreeze.
● Be respectful to your fellow band members. Keep noise to a minimum.
● Use the restroom prior to boarding the bus. The bus restroom is for emergency use only.
● Be courteous and thank the driver as you exit the bus.

While at other schools


● Never be alone. Always have a bathroom buddy.
● Be respectful and supportive of other bands. Under no circumstances are you to make
negative remarks about other bands.
● Be prepared for cold weather after our performance.
● Clean up after yourself.
● Remember that you represent our school and community. You WILL make an
impression, what kind will be up to you.

When we get back to CHS


● Before getting off, clean your bus area. Everyone is responsible for the cleanliness of the
bus. Do your part.
● Everyone is responsible for unloading and storing their own instrument and uniform.
● Students are dismissed after they put away their instrument and uniform with the
exception of Front Ensemble, Drum Majors, and Section Leaders, who will stay to unload
the trucks.
