MakeMy trip forays into Experiences

After Airbnb and Cleartrip, India's largest OTA MakeMyTrip has also forayed into
'Experiences' launching a series of standalone and curated experiential offerings for travellers.
MakeMyTrip has done a soft launch of Experiences on its android app and will eventually
launch Experiences on the MakeMyTrip ios app.

The first set of experiences for MakeMyTrip have been launched for ten cities in India
including the metros and cities like Jaipur, Pune, Chandigarh, Hyderabad and Goa, Rajesh
Magow, co-founder, and CEO, MakeMyTrip told ET. These experiences include amusement
park visits, options at local resorts and experiential activities like parasailing in Goa, a guided
tour of old Delhi and walking tour of Malabar Hill and a shared slum tour of Dharavi.

Magow said experiences also include activities for city dwellers who are not necessarily
looking at travelling but considering unique experiential activities within their cities and that the
new vertical is aimed at boosting engagement and stickiness on the MakeMyTrip app.

"We are adding experiences for local city residents like amusement parks, dining and spa
options. For example, if you're in Delhi but you are not looking to travel but looking at a few
experience options over the weekend you will find those options. The idea is to build these and
help the engagement and stickiness on the platform even more," Magow said.

He added that the company will market and promote them as standalone offerings and all the
activities are available to be booked separately, but they will also be included in the travel
packages offered by the company. "All the activities are available to book independently but we
will also bundle them with our packages. The thought that triggered this was to make sure how
engagement on the app increases from a daily active and monthly active user standpoint," he
said.

Travel platforms are betting on growing experiential travel market. In November 2016, home
stay accommodation services provider Airbnb moved beyond accommodation with the launch
of Trips, which included experiential offerings in global cities like London, Paris, Los Angeles
and Tokyo.
In May, Cleartrip announced that it expanded its international footprint by partnering with
global activity platforms like Klook and Musement to offer end-to-end experiential travel
services in 48 European and 18 Southeast Asian countries. Magow said MakeMyTrip will
gradually expand Experiences to include more Indian leisure and key business cities and also
plans to cover outbound experiential activities for overseas Indian travellers.
