UNIVERSITY OF THE EAST – MANILA

SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

Participants of the Study

The participants of this study are mostly the owners and the customers of the

shop whose age is ranging from 18 to 60 years old. The researchers chose this age

bracket because they thought that 18 years old and above are the legal age wherein the

participants are now capable of giving valid and reliable data. There were six

participants: four of them are the owners of the shop and remaining two are the

customers. The participants profile included the legality of being the owner of the

carwash and the owner of the car.

Research Instrument

The main instrument that was used in this research are the Questionnaires and

the Aide Memoir that contains questions related in this research. The listed questions

pertains with the experiences of the carwash owners competitors.

Researcher's Role

This study is all about the competition among the carwash businesses. It may

help the entrepreneurs to upgrade their shop into an innovated one. Help customers to

choose what shop is the best for them. This study can also help the students to use this

as their data and they can gather some information that can give them knowledge about

competition. The researchers ensured that they use appropriate words when they ask

questions.
The researchers also ensured the privacy of their participants. The researchers

ensured that they will never harm the participants while the interview is happening. The

researchers ask the owners and customers permission before the interview. The

researchers will get the information based on the answers of participants.

The researchers also gave credits to the participants as a validity of the

information. The questions that the researchers will ask should not affect the

participants in any way. The interviews will be held if the professor will allow the

researchers to do it with the proper knowledge and complete materials.

Data Gathering Procedure

The researchers were able to generate an idea that will help them answer their

questions that was out of interest. The task that was approved by the course instructor

for the researchers is the gathering of data and getting the answers to the questions put

together by the group of researchers. To be able to do this, they first looked for a place

wherein competition between carwash shops is taking place. A letter of request will

serve as a formal petition that will allow the researchers to conduct an interview to the

said participants which are the owners and consumers. With the use of the aide

memoir, the researchers can conduct an interview orderly.

Data Validating Procedure

The data that was gathered was subjected into two validation procedure. The first

validation procedure was member checking wherein the researchers return the data that

was gathered to the participants to check and clarify for accuracy and credibility. And

the other one was the peer debriefing technique where another person or researcher
who was not part at the data gathering, who is the researcher’s adviser, checked the

data that was gathered. (Creswell 2013)

The role of the researchers is to acquire a participant from the chosen place

which is in Lardizabal, Sampaloc Manila. The gathered data from the participants will

remain confidential. The data that will be gathered will serve as another local study

about carwash businesses.

Using thematic analysis to gain knowledge and insight about “The Qualitative

Study About Carwash Business” from a board perspective towards a more specific

question.

Data Analysis

The gathered information that the researchers collected from the participant’s

responses is analyzed so that the researchers will gain more understanding about the

participant’s perspectives. The data is analyzed using different methods, the first

process is familiarizing with the data. The researchers re reads the information for them

to be immersed with the participant’s responses or suggestions. The second process is

coding, the data were coded to organize the keywords and responses based on their

categories and their relevance for the research questions. The third step is word

repetition, the researchers will check if the word that is used in the data is redundant

and not relevant. The fourth step is checking for the unfamiliar words, if there are words

that are not familiar or unnecessary, the researchers search for an alternative word that

has the same meaning for the readers to easily understand the text. The final step is
compare and contrast, which allows the researchers to compare the responses of the

participants if it is similar or different with each other.
