Question N0.1
Given that,
x2 + 3x − 28
g(x) =
x−4

If limx→4−
x2 + 3x − 28
limx→4−
x−4

(−4)2 + 3(−4) − 28
=
−4 − 4
16 − 12 − 28
=
8
−24
=
8
= −3

If limx→4+
x2 + 3x − 28
limx→4+
x−4
By applying L’Hospital’s rule we get,
2x + 3
limx→4+
1
=2∗4+3
= 11
We can see that RHL 6= LHL. So, the following limit does not exists.

1
Question No. 2
Evaluating the following limit:

x2 − 2x + 1
limx→1
x − 1 − ln x
(x − 1)2
= limx→1
x − 1 − ln x
By applying L’Hospital’s rule we can get,

2(x − 1)
limx→1
1 − x1

2(x − 1)
= limx→1 (x−1)
x
= limx→1 2x
=2

Question No. 3
Given, (
5x2 −22x+8
x−4 if x 6= 4
,
f (x) =
3x, if x = 4

LHL:
5x2 − 22x + 8
limx→4−
x−4
(5x − 2)(x − 4)
= limx→4−
(x − 4)
= limx→4− 5x − 2
= 18

RHL:
limx→4+ 3x
=3∗4
= 12
As,LHL 6= RHL, So we can say that the function is not continuous at x = 4 .

2
Question No. 4
Given function, (
2 − x3 , if x < 1
f (x) =
x2 , if x ≥ 1
We know that,
f (x + h) − f (x)
f 0 (x) = limh→0
h
For x < 1 ,
f (x + h) − f (x)
limh→0−
h
(2 − x3 + h) − (2 − x3 )
= limh→0−
h
2 − x3 + h − 2 + x3
= limh→0−
h
h
= limh→0−
h
=1
For x ≥ 1,
f (x + h) − f (x)
limh→0+
h
(x + h)2 − x2
limh→0+
h
x2 + 2xh + h2 − x2
limh→0+
h
h2 + 2xh
limh→0+
h
h(h + 2x)
limh→0+
h
limh→0+ 2x + h
= 2x
So, at x=1,
LHL=1
RHL= 2 ∗ 1 = 2
LHL 6= RHL
So, the function is not differentiable at x = 1.

Question No. 5
Given that,
2
(2x + 1)2 y 3 + x ln y = e(x+y )

By defferentiating we get,
dy xdy 2 dy
⇒ y 3 2(2x + 1)2 + (2x + 1)2 3 + + ln y = ex+y (1 + 2y )
dx ydx dx
dy xdy 2 2 dy
⇒ 4y 3 (2x + 1) + 3y(2x + 1)2 + + ln y = yex+y + 2yex+y
dx ydx dx
dy x 2 2
⇒ (3y 2 (2x + 1)2 + − 2yex+y ) = yex+y − 4y 3 (2x + 1) − ln y
dx y
dy x 2 2
⇒ (3y 2 (4x2 + 4x + 1) + − 2yex+y = yex+y − 8xy 3 − 4y 3 − ln y
dx y
2
dy yex+y − 8xy 3 − 4y 3 − ln y
⇒ =
dx 12x y 2 + 12xy 2 + 3y 2 + xy − 2yex+y2
2

1 2 x+y 2
dy y (y e − 8xy 4 − 4y 4 − y ln y)
⇒ = 1
dx 2 3 3
y (12x y + 12xy + 3y
3 + x − 2y 2 ex+y2 )
2
dy y 2 ex+y − 8xy 4 − 4y 4 − y ln y
⇒ =
dx 12x y 3 + 12xy 3 + 3y 3 + x − 2y 2 ex+y2
2

4
Question No. 6
f (x) = x3 (ln(2x3 ))4
By using Product Rule,
d
f 0 (x) = x3 ( (ln(2x3 ))4 ) + (ln(2x3 ))4 3x2
dx
Let’s use Chain Rule,
d
(ln(2x3 ))4
dx
Let,
a = (ln b)4 , b = 2x3
da da db 1
= . = 4. ln(b). .6x2
dx db dx b
d 1
⇒ (ln(2x3 ))4 = 12. (ln(2x3 ))3
dx x
So,
1
f 0 (x) = x3 (12. (ln(2x3 ))3 ) + (ln(2x3 ))4 .3x2
x
Again using Product Rule,
1 d 1
f ”(x) = 12x3 ( ( (ln(2x3 ))3 )) + (ln(2x3 ))3 . 2
x dx x
2 d 3 4 3 4
+3x ( (ln(2x )) ) + 6x.(ln(2x ))
dx
Again Chain Rule,
d
(ln(2x3 ))3
dx
Let,
a = (ln(2x3 ))3 , b = 2x3
da da db 1
= . = 3 ln(b). .6x2
dx db dx b
d
(ln(2x3 ))3 = 9x2 ln(2x3 )
dx
So,
1
f ”(x) = 108x4 ln(2x3 ) + 2 (ln(2x3 ))3 + 36x(ln(2x3 ))3 + 6x(ln(2x3 ))4
x2
