A REPORT OF A VISIT TO A CROCODILE FARM ( TAMAN BUAYA ) MEDAN

INTRODUCTION

This report is aimed at reviewing our visit to a crocodile farm located at  Jl. Bunga Raya 2, No
54 Kecamatan Medan Selayang ( Bunga Raya 2 Street, No 54, Medan Selayang District) on
Saturday, 13 November 2021

FINDINGS

We are students of the accounting study program in Medan State Polytechnic. On


Saturday, 13 November 2021, We went to Crocodile farm / Taman Buaya Medan. We went there
to see and review how the state of the crocodile farm was and then report it so that others can
know well the crocodile Farm in the city of Medan. In there we used a motorbike, it took 20
minutes from Universitas Sumatera Utara to the crocodile park. You can use google maps to look
for it and there are also directions pamphlets to enter the crocodile farm area. It was quite easy to
find this crocodile breeding location.

In the crocodile farm, we found various types of crocodiles, ranging from large and small
crocodiles. The history of captive tamarind crocodiles, initially Mr. Lo Tham Muk only kept 12
crocodiles, then reproduced until the total crocodiles in the tamarind beetle captivity reached
2800 heads. The types of crocodiles in captivity are the Senyulong crocodiles and the estuarine
crocodiles. The difference between the Senyulong crocodiles and other types of crocodiles is that
their mouths are relatively narrow.

Medan crocodile farm is built on an area of approximately 2 hectares consisting of 78


crocodile breeding tanks. The land belongs to Mr. Lo Tham Muk. According to tour owners, it
takes at least a ton of fresh meat every day to support thousands of pet crocodiles. In general, the
meat consumed by Mr. Lo Tham Muk's crocodile is obtained from chicken and duck meat from
local residents. There is one of the largest crocodiles from the Medan beetle acid crocodile
breeding tour, until now it is the favorite animal of the tour owner. According to information that
the crocodile has a length of 5 meters with an age of 46 years, the crocodile is a special attraction
for tourists because it has a long life and long size.

Entrance ticket to visit the farm is levied 10,000 thousand per person. If you want to see
firsthand the process of eating crocodiles, visitors can buy ducks for Rp. 35,000 sold by the
manager, then throw animal bait into the crocodile lake.

In addition to being an attractive tourist spot, this crocodile farm is also an educational
tour for schools in the city of Medan, especially those who are still in elementary school or junior
high school. Here we can not only see crocodiles, but also we can see a mini zoo, by several
types of animals such as pythons, cobras, monkeys, turtles, and hundreds of white storks above a
large pool of crocodile breeding.

The tourist location is not far from the center of Medan, which is approximately 10
kilometers with a travel time of 33 minutes. And this park is open every day at 08.00 - 18.00
WIB .

CONCLUSION

Crocodile farm is one of the attractions in the city of Medan. This farm is also the largest
farm in Indonesia with an area of 2 hectares. This farm is managed by a family of Chinese
descent named lho than muk. At this farm we can find 2 types of crocodiles, namely Senyulong
crocodiles and the estuarine crocodiles. And to visit this farm the cost is not expensive, only Rp.
10,000, in this place we can give crocodiles to eat, just pay Rp. 35,000

SUGGESTION

Our suggestion if you want to come to the crocodile farm, bring a camera to capture the
moment and wear a mask because this place is quite smelly and for those of us who bring small
children we hope to always pay attention so that they don't get too close to the crocodile cage.
