Automation is starting to dominate the world today. IoT is a worldwide neural network in the
cloud that connects a mixture of things, aiming to maximize the benefits of internet connectivity in
transferring and processing data. Using IoT, one can monitor and control a device remotely with a
computer or smartphone. IoT can apply in various fields, one of which is the smart garden.
Astutiningtyas et al. (2021)
Swapnil et al, implemented plant watering that will sense the soil moisture content of the plant
and turn the motor ON to water the plant when needed that makes the plant more self-reliant by
watering itself. A. Al-Omary et al. (2018), carried out an extensive research on cloud-based Internet of
Things (IoT) smart garden monitoring and irrigation system using Arduino Uno. The watering
requirement for a plant can be adjusted by monitoring the soil moisture. Measuring the soil moisture of
the plant gives information if the plant is ideally watered, over watered or under watered. Furthermore
study of Muhammad Qomaruddin et al. (2019), a plant watering system created which enables to
control the air temperature, the soil moisture and the air humidity on the plants automatically. The
system built based on IoT with Protocol of MQTT so that the system can be monitored and controlled
from the distance in realtime. With the existence of IoT-based automation system with Protocol of
MQTT on the plant sprinkler, it can increase the time efficiency, power and energy, as well as optimize
the process of plant growth and development.
Abbas, Ahmed Hussein, et al. (2014), the paper discusses about a watering system for gardening
using WSN controlling the irrigation system using a valve. The system only uses soil moisture sensors
which is not enough to detect the level of water in field as water doesn’t instantly absorb by soil.
Moreover, the system is not optimized for the best timing of watering.
The research of an automatic irrigation system senses the moisture content of the soil and
automatically switches the pump when the power is on. A proper usage of irrigation system is very
important because the main reason is the shortage of land reserved water due to lack of rain, unplanned
use of water as a result large amount of water goes waste. For this reason, we use this automatic plant
watering system, and this system is very useful in all climatic conditions. (Abhishek Gupta, 2016)
