Learning Module in

Oral Communication
2nd Quarter

PREFACE

This module is specially created for YOU based on the results of your 1 st quarter outputs.
Remember to fill out the form below with your personal information. Also bear in mind that as part
of your learning, you must read and follow these instructions. Questions that are already implied
with these instructions will have due demerits. There are hidden instructions on this letter that will
reflect if you have comprehended this all throughout or not. Likewise, returned modules without
corresponding learning actions will not be accepted.
At the end of this module, you are expected to write and deliver different speech acts with
correct grammar and composition. The grammar reviewer must be answered online, if it is not
possible, send the answers to zero and nine hundred ninety-eight million three hundred seventy-
four thousand seven hundred fifty-three and five. That is my cellphone number where you can submit
your answers. I will reply as soon as possible to let you know I have received your answers. You
can work on your module at your own pace, but I will be waiting your grammar review answers on
my messenger or in text message. Your understanding and adherence are measured.
Next, this module will also require you to make a portfolio of three speeches, which must be
hand-written in a short bond paper attached in a long white folder and inserted in a long plastic
envelope. Your speeches must be personally signed over printed name at lower right portion of the
last page of each speech write-up. I would not repeat this instruction, you must learn how to follow
instructions on your own. The world outside school will not adjust for you.
The last requirement for this quarter is a series of video recordings. First, the Tiktok
broadcaster challenge which will be posted in FB group and in GCs. Second, short marketing
advertisement on any product or service you could think of. And third, an event hosting spiel
introducing your favorite celebrity or icon in a well-known event. Should you like to skip these three
tasks for modular reasons, send a schedule where you can be called over the phone to deliver the
three speeches you have written.
You would understand why there are shared videos on the TMSI OC101 FB groups when
you have finished reading until here. Your teacher would know if you read lengthy paragraphs like
this or not – as a test of your reading comprehension. Say, connecting online might be impossible,
but you have eight weeks to finish these tasks. You can create your game plan, like following the
weekly home learning plan attached in this module, or even come up with your own.
See you on the other side of these pages!

Regards,
Ms. A.

C. Directions: Read and comprehend the passage. Answer all the questions that
follow by writing the letter of the correct answer.

Passage A
One reason that so many people fail is that they lack confidence in themselves. If you
think of yourself as being unworthy of great achievement, you will never achieve greatness. If,
on the other hand, you know yourself and understand what your abilities are, and if then you are
determined to accomplish and gain confidence in yourself.
One of the surest ways to accomplish this is for you to associate with persons who
have really achieved greatness. It is impossible, however, for most people to come frequently
into the actual presence of the great. The next best thing, perhaps, is for you to spend a part of
your time in reading about great achievers. Biography is a powerful stimulant to action.
But these processes will not work unless you rid yourself of a sense of inferiority and
determined to do the best that you possibly can. One of the great philosophers expressed the
idea in a single sentence when he said that each individual should hitch his wagon to a star.
Questions
26. What is the main idea of the selection?
a. Self-confidence is hard to achieve
b. Many people suffer from an inferiority complex
c. Knowing oneself leads to great achievement in life
d. Self-confidence is the key factor in achieving success in life

27. Which paragraph/s gives/gives specific suggestions on how to develop confidence in

oneself?
a. Paragraph 1
b. Paragraph 2
c. Paragraph 1 and 3
d. Paragraph 2 and 3

28. What word is synonymous or closest in meaning to the word “hitch” as used in the last
sentence of the selection.
a. drive
b. fasten
c. detach
d. remove

29. What does the saying “each individual should hitch his wagon to a star” mean?
a. One should try to fulfill all his ambitions in life.
b. A person should emulate his ideal person.
c. A person should aim as high as he could reach.
d. One should wish upon a star to make his dreams come true.

30. Based on the selection, what conclusion may be drawn?

a. Confidence in oneself is crucial in achieving success.
b. Associating with well-known individuals is enough to propel one to succeed.
c. Reading the biographies of great people is essential for one to become successful.
d. Confidence in the ability of others is needed to boost one’s chances of succeeding.
