Executive Summary
Data Analysis – What We Analyzed
• Data for patterns that may provide direction for workload placement between
• HCI and 3-Tier infrastructure solutions.

Data Insights – What We Discovered

• Between 8-11% of virtual workloads drive disproportionate amounts of infrastructure
resources.
• On average these workloads drive 20% of compute, 28% of memory and 57% of
storage in infrastructure resources.

Assumptions – What We Think We Know

• We assume the 8-10% these workloads should be isolated to drive greater utilization and
efficiency

Workload Solution Hypothesis – What We’re Working On Next?

• We hypothesize what platform, HCI or all 3-Tier would be the optimal customer
configuration.

Restricted - Confidential © Copyright 2021 Dell Inc.

How Do We Get Started?
1. Customer needs to run a basic assessment tool, low touch!
• Live Optics Takes 5 minutes of a customer’s
VMware admin’s time
2. We take that data and review it internally
• Encompass used take 1-2 weeks
• AirXpres takes 1-2 Days

3. High level HCI and 3 Tier output to review, collaborate and refine
with your customer.

and it’s free!

What is Air ?
• AIR is a data-driven analysis for Optical Prime projects to educate and inform
customers about their environments.
• AIR reports both physical and virtual environments configurations and performance and
identify high potential problems.
• The report is downloadable for each Optical Prime project in the form of a PowerPoint deck
accompanied with an Excel report for further details.

What is Air Extended or AirX?

• It’s targeted towards environments with less than 1000 VMS.
• Merging both Encompass and AIR reports.
• Incorporating AI to draw insights from the customer’s performance data and create mock-up
slides with possible HCI and 3Tier solutions.
• Utilizing data-driven analysis of the customer’s workloads allowing you to have an elevated
conversations with your customers about their environments.

The AirX Experience
• Live Optics AIR Extended Report can be requested in Live Optics – no ticket in DASH required.
• AirX will maintain valuable insights similar to Encompass report.
• Utilize rule-based automation inside Live Optics to identify competitive storage, data protection software, out-of-date software & OS’s,
produced in PPT and Excel formats.
• PSS VxRail Sizing Service: A full-service deliverable option with real sizing solution based on real data.
• IO Distribution Slide using “Standard & Outlier performance”: Leverage the “Robots and Welders” concept, focused on VM
performance, not resource consumption.
• Data Filtering in Live Optics Assessments: Allows users to distil data relevant to specific physical clusters or workloads and export data
specific to those selections (VM-level data filter in planning).
• A full integration and migration of Encompass into Live Optics for a one-stop data source.
• Support and engagement with Encompass Champions and Live Optics Technology Advisory Boards for field direction and input.
• These groups have been/will continue to be critical to outlining the strategy above and identifying areas of improvement.
• We will continue to lean on these groups heavily going forward.
