Answer the following questions and briefly, yet as completely and truthfully as possible:

Does art always have a function? Why? Provide examples to prove your answer.

Yes, arts always have a function. Art serve various functions. To cite some major functions:
Physical/utilitarian, Social, and Personal.

The first one is physical function. Of all the functions, this is typicall the most straightforward to
grasp. Physical functions are present in works of art meant to perform a service. For instance, plate is a
broad, concave, but mainly flat vessel on which food can be served. For me, this is a work of art since this object was
made by humans and it really serve a physical or utilitarian function.

The second one is Social function. When art addresses aspects of (collective) existence rather
than one person's point of view or experience, it has a social function. When an artwork has a social
function, it has the capacity to influence social behavior or to be displayed for the public. For example,
this cartooning is a work of art given the fact that the author was able to convey his ideology,
message, or thought through this drawing. Consequently, it can effectively elicit a reaction and instil
the same belief to his audience. As the picture depicts, president Rodrigo Duterte is commencing a
War on Drugs movement.
Nonetheless, art’s functionality mainly depend on the perception of the viewers. As we are all aware
of, we differ from each other when it comes to preference, experience, intelligence, gender,
standards, homeland, and many more. As such, our perception toward the function of an artwork
may vary. For instance, these ancient agricultural tools were once used by Iberian settlement Bastida
of Alcusses during the late 5th century B.C.E. These tools once served a physical or utilitarian function.
However, as of the present, they no longer serve as agricultural tools for plowing fields and procuring
crops. Rather, they are displayed in museums to spread awareness about the past.

A need for self-expression or fulfillment may drive an artist to create. He or she may have wanted to
convey a message or make a point to the audience. Perhaps the artist was attempting to give an
aesthetic experience for himself as much as the audience. It's possible that a piece was created solely
to "entertain" people.
Before attempting to attribute functions to art, we must consider the historical period, location of
creation, cultural influences, and so on.

If an artwork cease to have a function, will it remain an art? Explain your answer.

Even if an artwork cease to have a function, there is still a possibility that it could still remain
as a work of art.

The one who decides whether or not a work of art has a function or not is the viewer. For
this reason, even if you were to think that a work of art ceased to have a function, there might be
those who would disagree. They might be seeing its aspect that you don’t. They could probably see its
worth, while you don’t.

Always bear in mind that we are distinct from one another. We are different in terms of
experience, personal preference, gender, race, religion, taste, culture, and standards. They might be
seeing a thing in a different perspective, so you may not see It the way they do.

For instance, you went to a junkshop and you saw a junked car. It’s previous owner sold it
there because they can no longer see its worth. For them, it already ceased to have a function. It can
no longer have a social function, since it is no longer aesthetically pleasing. It no longer have the
ability to impress others and elevate their social standing, since it’s all beaten up. It also can no longer
serve a utilitarian or physical function, given how unusable it is. Nonetheless, you, as an antique
enthusiast, was mesmerized by that car’s case. So you immediately bought some parts. You cleaned
those old neglected parts and repurposed it to make a desk. This serves as a proof that even if a thing
once ceased to have a function, it may have a new function if the person who views it is creative,
innovative, and imaginative enough.
Look for an object in your house that you could consider a work of art, and explain its functions and
why you consider it a work of art/

As I look around our house, I realized that there are a lot of work of art in our home. One of them is
my room’s lamp. As what can be seen in the image, it is aesthestically appealing and very useful
