FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT:

I. Project No. 1 Role Playing

Instructions:
1. Assume that your vessel receives a weather forecast from a weather facsimile or other
resources onboard that had bad weather as part of bridge team management. The master
called a safety meeting to all officers and members and carefully interpreted each
symbol’s weather maps. Also, the master gave safety instructions to all officers to
prepare the vessel for bad weather conditions and possible maneuvering of storm
avoidance. (Guided by heavy weather checklist)

2. This a group participation. Each group is composed of 5 members. As per

(Bridge Team Management)

3. The duration of this activity is a maximum of 20 minutes to be performed (Role Play)

4. Download the template with rubrics uploaded in the LMS as your answer sheet.

II. Course outcome 2 (CO2): Explain tropical revolving storms and how to avoid
and/or escape storm centers and dangerous quadrants in the northern and southern
hemispheres.

Instructions:
1. Illustrate the maneuvering sequence in the north and south hemispheres as per the
scenario required below.

2. Explain the necessary actions during tropical revolving storms to maintain the safety of
navigation in minimizing any risk to the safety of the ship in its respective hemisphere in
each quadrant.

Note: Each student should illustrate and explains the intended action to take based on the ship's
position within the storm as given by the Assessor. The maximum duration of explanation per
student is 60 minutes.

Scenarios:

1. Ship’s position In the Northern hemisphere (storm direction is WNW’ly - NE’ly).

2. Ship’s position In the Southern hemisphere (storm direction is WSW’ly - SE’ly)

3. This activity is an individual, Duration of this activity is 60 mins

4. The rating of each participant will be based on the rubrics attached to the template.

5. Download the template for the answer sheet uploaded in the LMS
STUDENT REFLECTION
Write a min. of 200-word Reflective Learning Report. You may refer to the guide questions
below. Write legibly and submit your work at the end of week 4.

Guide questions:
1. Think about what you have done.
Share your thoughts from different perspectives, what transpired during your activities, and
evaluate your actions.

2. Think about what happened.

What you did and what didn't work.

3. Analyze what happened.

Explain what your learnings are and your difficulties and make a plan on how you would
improve.

With the painstaking effort and comprehensive teachings of our instructor, CM Ronnel P.
Ramirez, we learned various topics that would surely be valuable in our pursuit of our dream
career. For this week, we discussed about

What worked well in this entire week is that I was able to grasp the topics with ease
because our instructor’s explanations are really straightforward and on point. We optimally and
efficiently made use of our time so that in that just a short duration of time, we could learn cover
a lot of topics. I paid no attention to different distractions as I was so engrossed, focused, and
eager to learn.

Another thing that went well during this week is that my time-management skills has
ameliorated. I can now effectively plan ahead which tasks must I do first. It is now more easier to
carry out tasks that are being handed out to us.

What didn’t worked well is that there are times when power interruption occur so I
momentarily disconnect from the internet. There are also some times when I become stressed
with all of the schoolworks that we have at hand, but it is manageable. The fault lies in me. I just
have to be better than I was yesterday. I must not waste time in doing trivial stuff. With sufficient
rest and optimistic mindset, I can triumph over these minor issues.

All in all, I learned a lot in our Meteorology and Oceanology subject. I am very thankful
to our instructor because he really put a lot of effort in teaching us in such a way that we can
understand easier. He prepared a lot of videos that are really educational. I did my best to
understand the topics to the best of my abilities and I actively participated during the class
discussion because I am really eager to learn. I am looking forward for our next class discussion.
