Teacher's Prayer
by Emie Marie Adiong

Heavenly Father,

source of truth and wisdom,

guide me as I share my knowledge and expertise

in this subject.

Send me your divine wisdom and Holy Spirit

so that I could continue to teach my students

what they need to know,

and I know that I can do all things through Christ

who will give me the strength.

Lord, remove any fear and anxiety in my heart

and in my students,

and fill it with joy and excitement

as we go on with our lessons.

I also pray that my students will have a retentive memory,

keen understanding, and strength

to participate in our class.

And Father, I thank you for this opportunity to teach.

Praise and honor be with you forever.

Amen.
Teacher's Prayer
by Gemma Artates

Dear Lord,

Let me be an effective educator.

Guide me as I hope to share knowledge and

goodness that will last in their memory.

Give me strength when I feel the weakest so

that those who look up to me wouldn't be.

Please help me be kind and just to see through

every situation with mercy and equity.

Let me have composure despite the multiple

affairs dealt with within a day.

Help me see my students' limitations, accept it,

and not hold it against them.

Lord, guide my students.

Please let them know that there is not a

moment unnoticed by your grace.

Help them choose to be hopeful, faithful, and

persistent, especially in their lowest moments.

Help them follow the path that pursues their

happiness.

In your mighty name, Amen.

1 WHAT ARE THE TEACHING STRATEGIES DO YOU EMPLOY IN

ORDER TO MAKE YOUR STUDENTS LEARN THE LESSONS?

I connect lessons to my students’ prior knowledge and

real-life experiences for them to deepen their
understanding.
I employ Inquiry-based instruction by posting thought-
provoking questions, which inspire my students to think
for themselves and become more independent learners.
I do differentiation or differentiated instruction by
allocating tasks based on students’ abilities to ensure
no one gets left behind.
I incorporate technology into my teaching is a great
way to actively engage students, especially as digital
media surrounds young people in the 21st century.

I relate lessons to students’ lives, give them choices
and use technology online platforms like DepEd
Learning Management System or LMS.
HOW DO YOU MOTIVATE YOUR STUDENTS TO CONTINUE
3 STUDYING DESPITE PANDEMIC?

I motivate my students by incorporating learning activities

that would heighten their levels of interest and value to
Education and by reminding them and making them feel
that their dreams and goals in life are still possible and that
because of DepEd’s Basic Education-Learning Continuity
Plan (BE-LCP) quality Education can still be provided to
them through Distance learning.

During this new normal setting, the types of assessment
that I use are just the same as assessments I used before,
These are:
Diagnostic Assessment assess students’ strengths,
weaknesses, knowledge, and prior knowledge
Formative Assessments assess students’ performance
during instruction.
Summative Assessment to evaluate students learning at
a particular point in each quarter in the form of written
works and performance tasks which allow learners to
show what they know and are able to do in diverse
ways (Using authentic assessments like essays,
Interviews, portfolios, journals, vlogs, and Rubrics.)

I usually do listing and time scheduling to make sure that I
can have enough time to work on things I must do whether
be it on my At-School duty or Work-From-Home duty, I
really do effort to finish my tasks well and with
consideration as much as possible to avoid being burned
out and when some things won't go as planned, I do try to
be calm and think for plan Bs as soonest as possible and
make time for God, for myself, for my family and for other
people and things I love. Because I know with them my
time will always be well invested and well- spent esp.
during this pandemic.
IF YOU WERE TO MAKE CHANGES OR IMPROVEMENTS IN
6 THE CURRENT SET-UP,WHAT ARE THESE?
If I were to make changes or improvements in the current
set-up these would be provision of technological Devices to
students for them to cope with distance learning /and
Improvement in the Academic and Career outcomes by
creating stronger High school and local business

Understand their best Learning style. They should Think
about which style of learning works best for them and it
will help them determine how to study, where to study,
when to study, and other important factors like what study
aids or tools they should use and be aware of, and knowing
what things may distract them while they are trying to
study.
Make study time a part of their daily Routine
They must take a break and take care of themselves
DO YOU HAVE OTHER STUDENTS SUFFERING DEPPRESSION?
As teachers, we should do the scheduling for them to
manage their time.
I don't pressure my students to their limits. I allow them to
pass activities later, as long as they are able to finish it
before quarterly assessments.

8 WHAT ADVICE CAN YOU GIVE TO PARENTS IN ORDER TO

HELP THEIR CHILDREN IN STUDYING IN THIS NEW NORMAL?

Stay patient
Communicate with the teacher to give updates on their
child’s situation, progress and challenges encountered and
guide their children in accomplishing tasks and or
monitoring tools designed by their teachers
WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON PARENTS WHO DO THEIR
CHILDREN'S MODULES INSTEAD OF HELPING OR TEACHING THEM?
I understand that it happens, but I hope they don't do
that kind of help to their students as it doesn't help them
learn.

9 WHAT ADVICE CAN U GIVE TO OTHER TEACHERS IN ORDER

TO EFFECTIVELY TEACH THEIR SUBJECT?

Use thinking tools. Encourage learners to think

critically, share insights creatively and find divergent
solutions to problems effectively.
Use Creativity tools. Stimulate creativity and
innovation among learners to allow them to enjoy doing
their learning tasks.
Be innovative themselves. This can be rewarding for
them since this will help them and their learners get
most of what they need not just in the teaching and
learning process specifically, but also in life.
And last but not least is to continue loving what they do
and love those precious hopefuls the students, as I
believe that effective teaching and learning happens
when teachers have skills, spirits, and hearts.

NEW NORMAL?

Since every teacher must come to teaching with the

experience of in-depth study of the subject area or
pedagogical content knowledge in a given subject
matter, you have to religiously take and study the
course with all sincerity, passion, and commitment as
the course will help you learn the things you need in the
New Normal. Just keep on going, be updated, be more
patient, and be optimistic about life,
continue growing personally coz as long as you have
this heart in teaching, you will definitely glow
professionally in this field even amidst pandemic.
Reflection
I am Meant to Become a Teacher
B Y E M I E M A R I
E F . A D I O N G

The way teachers help students in building their dreams

and become part of it is a great achievement and an
overwhelming feeling, and that is what I want to feel
someday. It was hard, though I am sure of what course to
take, but I know that Education is a difficult course. As we all
know, teaching is one of the oldest forms of social service in
any community and the foundation of any nation to develop
and prepare every student for future growth of knowledge
and skills primarily through structured educational methods.
We are expected to show expertise with these skills since
these will be taught to our future students. So I tried and tried
and still trying my best in everything. I worked hard for my
studies and took my responsibilities as a COED Student.

But life always throws us endless battles. Year 2020

has been the beginning of new normal when covid-19 hit us. In
these difficult times brought by the pandemic, it changes the
way people live, the management of their lives, their jobs, and
even students are experiencing changes when it comes mode
of learning. Since we are not allowed to conduct a face-to-
face learning, we rely on Online and Blended learning
instructions implemented by our University. In the online or
distance learning category, in asynchronous or synchronous
communication, learning takes place remotely. And it has been
our platform to continue our studies not just us, college
students, but also the entire population of students from
primary. And this FS1 (Observation) subject taught a student-
teacher like me to explore more about teaching and what it is
looks like to be in a classroom setting where learning
interaction happens between a teacher and students.
Basically, with regards to Field Study 1, the university will
deploy us to DepEd schools in order to observe learners,
strategies of a teacher, and the school structure.
This is the time wherein we, student-teachers will be exposed
to learning or school environment, and we are tasked to make
notes or jot down what we have observed in the school, the
classroom facilities, learning interaction, and everything about
the classroom and school setting. However, due to our current
situation, the University cannot deploy us. Instead of going to
schools, our course facilitator gave us an activity which is a
requirement in this subject to interview an English teacher to
share with us teaching experiences, strategies, and advices
for us, as becoming teachers.

Upon having the interview, a lot of realizations came up,

like despite the busyness of the teacher, she still managed to
give us time and effort to do the interview. Time management
is a big deal even during pandemic because the passion of
being a teacher is still there. Of course, the role of
communication and technology will always be our platforms to
continue learning and as someone who facilitates learning and
the learners. I have learned that in today’s instructions, we
are just creating connection in the online world where we can
motivate students by explaining to them the positive and
negative impacts of pandemic which may lead each of them
into two different perceptions in life whether to grow and to
inspire from this set up or to set aside everything and keep
motionless. I know that this current set up is not easy, and a
lot of us are having difficulty in dealing with study habits.
Actually, I do believe that there is no better and best study
habit for all because for me, study habit depends on the
diversity of learners. And this current set up taught me more
about dealing with it. Study habit is being me. I do whatever I
think would benefit me in my learning. It is also important to
stay in focus. I never rush everything, I know, I cannot finish
everything in just one sitting. I also give myself a break.
Whenever I feel that I am tired, I take a nap or watch movie
and series. I do not hesitate to ask for need, support, and
guidance from my teachers and classmates if there are things
that leave me confusions.
These are the things that I want to inflict my future students. I
want them to generate ways that would help them as they
pursue their dreams.

I will try my best to teach in any circumstance with different

strategies and that Education must be delivered for the
development and growth of every student. Aside from
education, I must install understanding and accept diversity as
a part of society which teaches me empathy and cuts the ties
between different groups of people by bringing people who
are different from us to life in our own lives like we are all the
same because in the near future I have to deal with different
students with different cultural background, different
language abilities, and different attitudes and behaviors, but
still they are all humans who wanted to learn. So whoever and
whatever kind of leaner you are, you deserve to be educated
in any forms and respected.

Before I end this reflection of mine, I am congratulating

myself and my fellow future educators for reaching this far
because I know, all of us are also challenge with the new
setting and we are trying our best to address the things that
would make us reach our dreams. I believe that in our
generation, we are more advanced and adjustable with the
new normal setting since we are already experiencing the
feeling of being a student in the new set up and it helps us to
be ready in teaching in the new normal setting. Moreover, this
activity (interview) made me believe more in myself that I am
meant to become an educator in this generation and setting,
and will be able to impose the things that I think would make
me the best version of myself.
Thoughts of a Future Educator
BY GEMMA G. ARTATES

One of the most inspiring things about a teacher is their

ability to change a student’s life forever. Students can have
mental breakdowns from piling activities and personal
problems. They would feel the weight of the world on their
shoulder, but a single motivation from a teacher can flip their
mood. It may not be as much for a teacher who only speaks of
words, but a student may view it as a warm hug that he will
cherish for a long time.

Amidst our new culture because of the pandemic, we

experienced a lot of misfortunes and held backs. People lost
jobs, opportunities, and loved ones. I live in one of the
crowded places in Roxas city, and I remember how quiet our
road was when it all started. Opposite of the noise, I always
complain and smiled about. It was a silence that everyone
heard and will remember the most. We witnessed how students
struggled to get through their studies, along with their
personal dilemmas. And I commend those people who got
through those trying times. As we live a year and a half since
everything has happened, the brighter side of all of this is
slowly shining on us. Still, we see the aftermath of it all.
Unfortunately, because we yet may not conduct classes
like before. In the meantime, we settle things online or through
virtual means to comply with our subject. Taken, for example,
is our subject behind this paper, Field Study 1. Which we were
looking forward to experiencing the tough nature of being in
front of students. On the bright side, it gave us the chance to
interview some of our former teachers. Me and my partner,
Miss Emie Marie Adiong, got the privilege to interview Miss
Jene Gaspar.
Miss Jene was an inspirational teacher from Dao National
High School. To interview her felt like a blessing. Amidst her
busy schedule, she gave time and effort for us to interview
her. As she said, she makes most of her time by creating a
schedule of what she needs to do. Time management is really
challenging for me as I often take so long to do tasks. But
because of this pandemic, it really forces you to do just that. It
gives not only you to reach deadlines on time, but it also saves
you time to do your hobbies and relax. Time management is a
habit I must work on because when we become professionals;
it is going to be very busy. At least, with time management, we
can still enjoy life as we work hard.

The other thing that I noticed and admire about Miss Jene
is how kind and understanding she is to everyone. What she
emphasized in our interview is having empathy towards her
students. She expresses that while we require students to pass
activities; it is more important that we make sure they learn
and understand the lesson. I knew how lucky her students
were upon hearing such thoughtful remarks. Sometimes, for a
student to be motivated in learning in your class, all they need
is to be understood. And I agree, we are students, foremost.
Our experiences should make us understand how some may
struggle in performing activities, especially at these trying
times. Every student is diverse in learning styles. Some may
adapt, and some may not. Some may take tasks as challenges,
but it may be too big of a hurdle for others. We should not
assume that because we require these tasks, it can be easy for
them to comply immediately. Learning for other students can
sometimes take time. Certainly, this goes by saying that it
follows through the right process and there is a limitation to
these adjustments.

As we take a step closer to the end of this course, I feel

proud to survive the hardships before this day. Although we
missed a lot of events and opportunities we could have
enjoyed, every moment was still a memorable one. As we
survive the new normal setting, despite the constant errors, I
believe it has made us build up our courage to face upcoming
trials. Overall, this interview was a great experience that
added to my passion to become an Educator. I would also like
to thank and commend every I had until now. They were
certainly instrumental for me to improve my weaknesses. I
assure you I will use what I have learned in my career in the
future for great practice. And I hope that as I become a true
Professional Teacher, I would also extend the kind of
inspiration, motivation, and knowledge to the future
generation.
