There are contributing stressors of mental health in the Generation Z,
including social relations, academic performance, family and peer pressure,
violence, economic crises, even politics. This generation may experience acute
emotions of isolation and loneliness as a result of growing up in a hyper-connected
environment. It can also foster a constant barrage of bad news reports, a fear of
losing out, and humiliation at falling short of a social media-worthy norm. Conversely,
high levels of mental health have been linked to higher learning, creativity, and
productivity, as well as more pro-social behavior and positive social interactions, as
well as enhanced physical health and life expectancy. The significance of education
to our society is dealt accordingly to relevant studies that improve the system to its
very foundation. Today, the modern generation of students are the ones who are
most strongly affected. School days have been focused on exam preparation,
producing an environment that encourages memorization rather than critical thinking
and skills-development. The students as a population, magnifies the topic about
mental health in light of performances, where recognitions are based from. An
individual's support system begins with their Family. Their first-hand experience to
every milestone is greatly influenced by their familial traces. Afraid to fail, as they are
pressured to always excel in everything because of high expectations. The stigma
around victims of unaccepted behaviors or violence in a wider scale, is evident
among today's society. Economic crisis increases rate of unemployment, financial
insecurity and decreasing welfare support. Particularly for generation Zs from low-
income families, it's a tale of stress shifting for youth in terms of its causes, as well
as stress disparities. They are well-recognized in voicing out their opinions about
politics, that they have the courage to speak up when no one else could, stirring up
and causing tension.
