LESSON 1

ONCE UPON A TIME

Objective: In Once Upon a Time, learners tell a story together using cards that show story elements and
endings.
Level: Intermediate to Advanced Learners
Language Focus: 2 Types of Clause (Adjective Clause, Adverbial Clause)
Materials: Once Upon a Time Card Game through Steam

-Before the lesson begins, learners are expected to read the rulebook.

1. In a prepared chart tell the learners to list down all the clauses they have identified and write them according to
what column they belong to in the chart.

2. Every learner must be able to formulate sentences with adjective and adverbial clause depending on what card
they have.

3. After the game, in the jamboard, let learners write the clauses and place them on what column of the table they
belong with.

4. Ask learners to write at least 2 sentences with adjective clause and adverbial clause. (This is done after an input
on the 2 types of clauses)

5. Ask students switch their outputs and let them do metalinguistic feedback or recast during peer-feed backing.
Each learner will comment on whether their co-learner’s outputs contain the 2 types of clauses.

6. As an assessment, have learners record themselves telling what they do today using Flipgrid. Remind the
learners to include Adjective clause and Adverbial clauses in their sentences as they tell their story. Present also
the rubric to the learners.

 Doesn’t use second-person pronouns: you, your, yourself except in
dialogue.

 No fragments.
