SUBJECT: ACTIVITIES AND CONTEST FOR THE NATIONAL READING MONTH

DATE: November 8, 2021

1. Pursuant to Republic Act No. 10556 an act declaring every 27 th day of November as “ARAW
NG PAGBASA” and a National Reading Month. This office through the Curriculum
Implementation Division shall conduct ACTIVITIES AND CONTEST that highlights the
DIVISION SEARCH FOR BEST READING PROGRAM IMPLEMENTERS 2021 and BEST
TEACHERS TEACHING BEGINNING READING IN MTB-MLE, FILIPINO and ENGLISH
subjects.

2. The search aims to:

a. Identify schools with the most functional and effective reading programs and interventions
as well as teachers who manifest the characteristics of an outstanding reading teacher based
on a given set of indicators.
b. Evaluate the extent and sustainability of implementation of reading program and
interventions.
c. Commend /recognize schools with best practices and innovations in the promotion of
reading and the advocacy on the importance of reading among learners and stakeholders.
d. Enhance and strengthen reading programs and interventions in schools to improve the
learners’ overall achievement level and the school in general.

3. Each district shall select one Outstanding Reading Program Implementing School and the Most
Outstanding Teacher Teaching Beggining Reading (Key stage 1), one for MTB-MLE, one for
Filipino, and one for English to be their official entry to the division search. The basis for
selection of the best reading implementing school and best reading teachers is through video
presentation featuring the school’s reading program and teacher’s initiative in teaching reading
to their learners in this new normal with a maximum of 30 minutes.

 4. The division will select top 5 schools Best Reading Program Implementer and top 5 best
teachers in MTB-MLE, 5 best teachers in Filipino, and 5 best teachers in English Teaching
Beginning Reading and will be given with a Cetificate of Recognition.

5. All schools are advised to watch/participate the activities conducted by the national office
through live streamed via DepEd Philippines facebook page which includes Orientation for
teachers on the use of Reading Progress app, Virtual kick off, Capacity Building on Story
Telling, Mystery Readers, Dugtungang Pagbasa, Reading Cup, Reading Challenge, and
Reading Family on the scheduled that is attached herewith. The schools also are encouraged to
conduct school-based virtual Read-A-Thon.

6. The following proposed activities and schedules shall be observed for the celebrations:

November 24,2021 Submission of the district result together with the pre-recorded
video and the list of the most oustanding teacher teaching
beginning reading to the division search committee.
November 28-30,2021 Division evaluation of district entries, selection of the top 5 per
category, and awarding.

7. Expenses of these activities shall be charged to local funds while travel expenses of the
Division Evaluators Team shall utilize the downloaded amount of Ten Thousand Pesos
(Php.10,000.00) from the regional funds, subject to the usual accounting and auditing rules and
procedures.
