Response to the questionnaire from Camarines Norte College, Labo, Camarines Norte dated
August 18, 2015 entitled: Developmental Reading 1 (Questionnaires)
1. Our program is formerly called BWC: Weekend Tutorial Program and now, we named it BWC
READS: (Because We Care: Reading Enhancement & Diverse Services)
2. The program started in the year 2004-2005, when the School Reading Program Coordinator,
Ms. Marivic C. Aloc was working with a United States Peace Corps Volunteer Ms. Nola S.
Long. It started with the establishment of the School Reading Nook in line with the schools
Reading Recovery Program.
3. Target grades of the program are first year/grade 7 students who are classified as struggling
readers non, slow & Problematic readers upon enrolment in high school.
4. The Tulay na Lupa National High School has been running a school reading recovery program
for the past decade to address the needs of learners who struggle in many aspects of life. In its
decade of existence as an agent of progress, a lot has been learned and the proponent thinks
that in order to truly deliver quality services to the entire community, it should continually evolve
and adhere to the trends and urgent necessities surrounding it.
5. Among the resources, materials needed in running the program are the following:
a. Manual of the School Reading Program
b. Provisions for food, transportation, documentation and training needs
c. Copy of the School Improvement Plan, Annual Implementation Plan & Annual
Procurement Plan
d. Documents reflecting fund generation & expenditures mechanism
e. School support & recognition thru memorandum/issuance
f. Personal outsourcing for professional development.
g. Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between DepEd & the proponent
6. There is no Reading Specialist in the school; Ms. Aloc, the SRP Coordinator was sent to training
Reading Education Training Program (RETP) at RELC Legazpi City on April 16-May 5, 2001.
7. Description
8. Main Featrures of the Program: The program has a number of components namely:
a. Early Assessment. Starting this year, Reading Assessment for Seventh Graders
(REAPS) will be conducted two weeks after the end of classes so that a four-week
reading intervention program that will bridge the gap on the learners current reading skill
and what is expected of him/her as a seventh grader can be implemented.
b. Early recruitment/training of tutors. Recruitment must be year round and the PreTutorials Training for Mentors & Volunteers should be conducted in July & February to
ensure adequate training and prepare the tutors for the learning experience.
c. Inclusion of the program in the School Improvement Plan. The proponent should
exert best effort to make the school administration include this program in the SIP during
the strategic planning session.
