KEY THEMES
Importance of messaging and communication Engage school teachers in planning and re-enforce the message that the partnership provides leverage to optimize what is already being done in the first part of the school day. Create an environment of transparency between school administrators, CS staff & school staff. Ensure families and students are well informed ahead of an extended school day. Strategies: Principal needs to message clearly and assertively that the school day will run until 5pm and that Citizen Schools is not after school but a component of the school day. Citizen Schools Campus Director highlighting additional time, talent and relevance as a component of ECPs overall reform plan. Citizen Schools Campus Director sends a daily/weekly email to school staff with an update on what happened in the second shift. Prioritizing opportunities to align for a seamless school day: Open acknowledgement of successes as well as misalignments, ensuring all resolutions are student centered. Negotiate early partnership logistics e.g. sharing space, setting up schedules, meeting times, etc. Strategies: Provide Citizen School grade on weekly progress report. Co-teach with school teachers for 30 minute blocks 4x a week during regular school day in Rise Up! block. Citizen Schools staff participate in 6th grade team meetings. Design pull out strategy during Citizen Schools AIM block (run by teachers).
