Questions for Formulating Significant Learning Goals

"A year (or more) after this course is over, I want and hope that students will able to be
involved in what’s taught to them by creating their own lesson plans to actually be student-
center. I believe this is big step in lesson planning and creating self-directed learners, but it
serves a great purpose of equipping the students with the knowledge and information they
need to learn, using the methods that they choose and suits their comprehension style/ level”

My Big Harry Audacious Goal (BHAG) for the course is: Learners will create blended learning-
based lesson plans for 1 semester using the provided resources and given feedback from
peers/teachers so they can be in charge of their own learning creating student-centered/
student-made lesson plan

Foundational Knowledge
 What key information (e.g., facts, terms, formulae, concepts, principles, relationships, etc.)
is/are important for students to understand and remember in the future?

 What key ideas (or perspectives) are important for students to understand in this
course?
 There are different models of blended learning
1- Station rotation
2- Flipped learning
3- Enriched virtual
4- Flex model
 Students will need to know how to work collaboratively with peers
 Learn how to communicate effectively and articulately with peers/teachers for feedback
 That they need to understand the how each blended learning model works and can be
applicable.

Application Goals
 What kinds of thinking are important for students to learn?
 Critical thinking, in which students analyze and evaluate
 Students need to analyze the given feedbacks and suggestion from
peers/teachers to integrate it into their lesson plans

 Creative thinking, in which students imagine and create

Worksheet questions adopted from: L. Dee Fink, (2003) Creating Significant Learning Experiences: An Integrated
Approach to Designing College Courses. San Francisco: Jossey-Bass
 Students will need self-expression, insight, experimentation, and
problem-solving skills to be used for the student-made lesson planning project.
 Practical thinking, in which students solve problems and make decisions
 Students will need to understand the process of creating and finalizing
lesson plans using given resources/ feedback and inputs and working with peers.

 What important skills do students need to gain?

 Students will have the skills of teamwork, autonomy, analyzing and communication skills
which they will need them even in their daily life, not only for this project.

 Do students need to learn how to manage complex projects?

 Students will need to start learning how to manage complex projects, but they will need my
help as a mentor to guide them and provide support during the entire process.

Integration Goals
 What connections (similarities and interactions) should students recognize and make…:
 Among ideas within this course?
 Students should understand that them, creating lesson plans is the process of
creating their own learning guide that’s student-centered.

 Among the information, ideas, and perspectives in this course and those in other
courses or areas?
 Students should be able to recognize that collaboration and communication is
key for a successful project outcome, and these traits should be used in every
aspect of our lives since it helps develop new ideas and adapt to a growth
mindset.

 Among material in this course and the students' own personal, social, and/or
work life?
 Students will see how they can apply their communication skills and their
different types of thinking like critical, practical, and creative thinking skills in
their own personal, professional, academic, and social life to gain more
awareness, knowledge and interpersonal skills.

Human Dimensions Goals

Approach to Designing College Courses. San Francisco: Jossey-Bass
 What could or should students learn about themselves?
 Students should learn that they can inspire others and think outside the box and voice their
ideas and opinions.

 Students working successfully as a team and sharing ideas will teach them that
collaboration is far more great and productive outcomes than working solo.

 What could or should students learn about understanding others and/or interacting with
them?
 Students will learn interpersonal and communication skills through working with their peers
and other teachers as a team to accomplish their project.
 Working together increases productivity and performance

Caring Goals
 What changes/values do you hope students will adopt?
- Feelings?
- I hope students become more confidence in their planning and communication skills.

- Interests?

- I hope students will be interested to voluntarily work with their peers as a team without
being pressured to do so.

- Values?
- I hope student will find value in the skills they learn throughout this project from
learning how to be self-directed learners, to expressing their voice and ideas to being
actually involved in their learning by creating their lesson plans.

"Learning-How-to-Learn" Goals
 What would you like for students to learn about?
 how to be good students in a course like this?
 I would like students to learn how to work with one another as a team and build
their confidence in a social and mental aspects.

 I would also like for my students to develop self-directed skills within a blended
learning classroom

 how to learn about this particular subject?

Worksheet questions adopted from: L. Dee Fink, (2003) Creating Significant Learning Experiences: An Integrated
Approach to Designing College Courses. San Francisco: Jossey-Bass
 I would like students to learn that blended learning offer flexible and convenient
learning experience for them to do their lesson at their own pace using differentiated
learning method.

 how to become a self-directed learner of this subject, i.e., having a learning agenda
of what they need/want to learn, and a plan for learning it?
 Students in a blended learning classroom are in charge of their own learning
process! This project is a reflection of their own learning interests, methods and
likeable approach to strengthen what they have learned.
