I. SUMMARY
The drama Kahapon, Ngayon at Bukas was written and performed 106 years ago.
an anti-imperialist play about the new invaders, the Americans, Mother of Spain, and
Old China, who all want to feast on the Philippines' resources. The play was shown at
Teatro Libertad in Manila on May 14, 1903 . The triumph of Inang Bayan (Motherland)
over her tormentors is the focus of the play, which features Haring Bata (Child King), the
symbol of Old China; Halimaw (Monster), the symbol of the Spanish friars who
continued to dominate the church and influence local politics despite the mock battle in
Manila Bay; Dilat-na-Bulag (Eyes Open, Yet Blind), the ever royal Spain; and Bagong
Sibol (The Budding One), which is the new superpower of the capitalist world, the
United States of America. The play is also made up of three different acts:
In the First act, Kahapon was presented. Haring Bata is chased away by Tagailog,
who leads an armed revbolt. In the Second act, Ngayon was showed. Tagailog was
imprisoned because of insulting Dilat-Na-Bulag. However, he manages to flee, leaving
behind a corpse that is meant to be mistaken for a dead Tagailog. Tagailog's foes are
thrown off by the deceit, and he recognizes a revolution that overthrows Matanglawin. In
the third and last act, Bukas was presented. This conduct was most likely intended to
portray Inang Bayan as having a bright future from the American administration. Bagong
Sibol and Malaynatin, who came to offer friendship when Tagailog and his men were
still fighting Matanglawin, turn out to be Filipino adversaries, much as Haring bata and
Dilat-na-Bulag did.
The drama was related to the history of our beloved country, the Philippines. This
shows on what is the importance of having freedom and achieving it.
II. CRITIQUE
The author, Aurelio Tolentino’s drama was organized properly, very informative and
easily to follow or understand. He also interprets the concept of the story in a fair
manner. The film educated us about the difficulties that our Motherland suffered in the
past, notably during the colonization of our country. The flaw is that watchers and
listeners may feel sorry for the countries that colonized us at the time, particularly the
Americans. I can therefore say that this documentary was already well-made and
instructive, and there is no need to add up onto something in order for it to be fully
complete. The author's previous presentation of the subject was fantastic; it was a
fantastic resource. I'm interested in learning more about this topic as a student and
history buff since it demonstrates how our country has faced obstacles in the past.
III. MEANING
IV. REACTION
The drama depicts how the Americans persecuted the Filipino people in order to
fulfill their goal of invading the country. It appeals to me greatly. I'm watching the film
because it's provided me with a wealth of useful information that I can apply and share
with others. The documentary shocked me by demonstrating the cultural diversity of our
country. Many countries, most notably the United States, seek to dominate us by
exploiting our flaws. natural resources It exemplifies the great diversity of culture,
religion, and practices that exist in our society. They used their powers and positions to
take advantage against the people here in our country.
V. APPLICATION
While seeing this video, I realized that our country have faced several and very
difficult challenges, particularly during the colonial period. I've learnt about our country's
historical significance and how we fight for our rights. This information showed me that
what happened years ago is not the same as what we are going through now. This
video serves as a reminder that we must always fight for our freedom and rights, as well
as commemorate our heroes, for they are the ones who risked their lives in order to
achieve liberty and freedom in our homeland.
