scenarios and demonstrate knowledge to assist in
the safe conduct of the vessel.

This activitiesintends to provide the student with
thorough knowledge and understanding of the
content, application and intent of the International
Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea, 1972
in order maintain a safe navigational watch.

3. Scenario
a. Plan and carry out navigation passage utilizing
the Full Mission Bridge Simulator as
prescribed in Table A-II/1 Function Navigation
at the Operational level
b. Describe the criteria to applied during the
assessment.
c. Discuss to the trainees that the exercise
should be as realistic as possible as if they
were on board the ship.
d. Discuss to the trainees that the exercise is all
about

Below is the procedure of the exercise to be followed by the trainee(s) based on the scenario presented
earlier in this exercise.

1. Create a suitable voyage for a draft of 8.5 meters from, Lat 01º 22.5’N Long 104º 23.5’E
following the appropriate Traffic Separation Scheme while complying with Collision Regulations
(COLREG) Rule No. 10 - TSS.

2. Save the plan as Test Scenario.


3. Set ECDIS using the following criteria:
a. Chart Display. From Standard display, set ECDIS to display everything except for secondary track
additional information and data quality.
b. Safety Depth and Contour
1. Safety Depth: 30 meters
2. Safety Contour: 13 meters
c. Parameters Set-Up (Display)
1. Ship Vector: 360 seconds
d. Parameters Set-Up (Route)
1. Draft: 8.5 meters
2. Cruise Speed: 14 knots
3. Max. Speed: 15.5 knots
4. Default Radius: 0.50 nautical mile
5. Off-Track Limit: 500 meters

10. Correctly perform the playback of the voyage

TRAINER ACTION

Below is the trainer’s guide in observing the trainees conducting the procedure of this exercise.

1. Check if the right scenarios are loaded and initial conditions are met before commencing the
assessment.
2. Pause the scenario and conduct the briefing.
3. Give trainee enough time to prepare prior to starting the simulation.
4. Commence the simulationexercise scenario.
5. Monitor the trainees’ progress through the instructor’s console.
6. Remind the trainees of the time left and provide feedback to trainees.
7. Stop the exercise if there is any deviation from normal operation. Inform the trainee of the reason and
give further instruction.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

1. The successful conclusion of the exercise will rely on how you will provide the necessary
information to the student before simulation start.
2. In the event of simulator malfunction, student has to notify the facilitator and has to pause or stop
theexercise.
