IN-SERVICE TRAINING ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS AMIDST COVID-19
A. Rationale
Over the course of the past few months the world has gradually stopped. A pandemic caused
by a coronavirus disease, now known as COVID-19, has changed the way we all live.
Individuals living with mental illness often feel distant from friends and loved ones and can
find it difficult to perform to their maximum productivity in the workplace. In fact, mental
health issues are growing at a faster rate than any other kind of disability in today’s workplace.
This situation is exacerbated by the stigma that still exists around mental illness and the
reluctance to discuss it openly at home or at work. As a support our department recognized the
impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic to a person’s mental health, the Department of Education
(DepEd), launched a series of Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Services (MHPSS)
provisions for DepEd personnel.
B. Objectives
The training aims to:
a. Understand the impact of a mental illness on the employee.

b. Comprehend the importance of support from the workplace.
c. Develop strategies for helping themselves or others who are suffering from a mental
illness.
