2. In what ways?

EDUCATION- The concept of free education was introduced to the

Philippines by Americans. One such policy was the introduction of the
American educational system, which had such a pervasive and far-reaching
impact on the lives and cultures of Filipinos during and after the colonial
period that it is widely regarded as the “ greatest contribution” of American
colonialism in the Philippines, despite its relatively short history.

LANGUAGE- English language continues to be teach during this time. And

this was the language used by the teachers.

ECONOMY/ POLITICAL- US improved the economy and system of

government, where Filipino’s had a greater political participation and more
economic gains. The American rule caused great marks of “colonial mentality”
and the materialistic and individual ways among many Filipinos.
 ANALYSIS

1.

2. I believe that education and the use of English as a medium of instruction have
been and continue to be the single most significant influence on the Filipino people
brought about by the United States.

3. In the United States colonial government, education became a very important

issue because it allowed them to spread their cultural values, particularly the
English language, to the Filipino people. Teaching the English language and
American history leads to the formation of a national identity and the development
of Filipino nationalist.

CRITICAL ESSAY
NOLI ME TANGERE

1.Following its publication, Noli me Tangere was widely regarded as one of the key
instruments in the emergence of Filipino nationalism, which ultimately culminated
in the 1896 Philippine Revolution. The novel not just to reawakened a hidden
Filipino consciousness, but it also laid the groundwork for the country's aspiration
to freedom.

2. It was the first novel written by Filipino patriot and national hero Dr. Jose Rizal
and published in Germany, Noli me tangere, which was published in 1887. It deals
extensively with the society of the Philippines during the spanish colonial period,
and it portrays the aristocracy as the driving force behind poverty and colonialist
exploitation.

3. Rizal was pursuing a medical degree at the time of his arrest. As a result of his
stay in Germany, Rizal began writing the second half of his novel Noli Me Tangere,
which was completed on February 21, 1887, in spurts. Having read Harriet
Beecher Stowe's novel Uncle Tom's Cabin, he was inspired to write his own novel
with the same subject matter in order to bring attention to Spanish colonial abuse.

4. The novel Noli Me Tangere by José Rizal played a pivotal role in the political
history of the Philippines. Rizal's horrific criticism of a society under Spanish
colonialism was based on personal experience, novelistic conventions of the
nineteenth century, and the ideals of European liberalism.
