Population Size
Lucena City's population is continually changing as a result of the momentum produced
by the city's rapid expansion in the past. However, there are more causes that
contributed to the city's population growth.
To begin, Lucena is home to a sizable natural fish port at Barangay Dalahican, which
draws fisherman from Marinduque, the Bicol Region, and the Visayas. Many of these
fishermen retain residences in their native regions and travel to Lucena on a seasonal
basis.
Second, Lucena is a trading and financial hub for the Southern Tagalog Region,
attracting a large number of dealers and buyers. Thirdly, the City serves as the
provincial capital.
Additionally, this area is home to many colleges, national high schools, and the
provincial hospital. Individuals, particularly students from adjacent towns and provinces,
go to the city to take use of its facilities. This explains the dramatic rise in population
during the school year's final months.

Population Growth Rate
The city's yearly average population growth was estimated at 5,759 in the most recent
census, up from 3,665 in 2000. Additionally, economic and social circumstances have
an effect on the city's population increase. Lucena City's population growth rate, or
PGR, was 2.31 percent in 2010, a decrease of 0.3 percent from the 2.61 percent
recorded in 2007. Lucena's reported population in the 201 cencus was 246, 392, a
growth of 10, 002 over the 2007 number of 236,390. This translates to an annual growth
of 3, 334 inhabitants over the three-year period (2007-2010). If the Lucena City
population continues steady at 2.31 percent, the city's population would double in 30
years. Additionally, Lucena City's PGR is lower than the regional average of 3.49
percent but higher than the national average of 1.61 percent.

The gross population density of the city was estimated to be 29.63 inhabitants per
hectare. As predicted, heavily inhabited neighborhoods may be found in the city center's
barangays, with the top ten being Barangays 4, 8, 7, Marketview, 5, 1, 2, 9, 10, and
