ELEVATOR/SPIDER MAINTENANCE, INSPECTION & WEAR DATA SR3

MAINTENANCE & INSPECTION

CATEGORY 1 - DAILY MAINTENANCE & INSPECTION
Lubricate and observe equipment during operation for indications of inadequate performance.
(I.E. slip movement, valve function, lubricator/regulator, etc.)
Check components to insure all are present and functioning.
(I.E. fittings, cotter pins, bolts, etc.) Missing items need to be replaced immediately.

CATEGORY 2 - MONTHLY AND AFTER EACH JOB

Clean and inspect for wear on hinge pin, hinge pin holes and bore.
Visually check for signs of wear and elongation of components.
(I.E. slip links, elevator ears, level beam holes, etc.)
Visually check slip backs for wear or gouging.
Note: Improper slip contact can occur if taper is worn and this could cause damage to the
pipe or pipe slippage.

CATEGORY 3 – ANNUALLY/SEMIANNUALLY (DEPENDING ON THE USE OF TOOL)

Disassemble equipment to the extent necessary to conduct NDE on critical areas. NDE should be
performed by qualified personnel in accordance with ASTM E709 and E125.
Note: Critical areas are shaded in Figure 1

ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA
Perform MPI according to ASTM E709. Determine the type of discontinuities by comparing to ASTM
E125 reference photographs. Discontinuities other than cracks (type I) have been deemed acceptable
by Den-Con Tool Company. All cracks that have developed during service are relevant and must be
examined. Inherent discontinuities not associated with a surface rupture are not considered relevant.
Only indications that are deemed relevant should be investigated further to determine severity.
Compare relevant indications to ASTM E125 reference photographs to determine severity.
Note: Reference discontinuity severity table to determine acceptance of relevant indications.
If indications are deemed unacceptable, refer to DCT recommended repair procedure.
Note: Acceptance criteria applies to critical areas as shown in Figure 1
