0.1Introduction
Welcome to version 5.27 of the Asset Surveyor® software
(Asset Surveyor 5.27). This software runs on Trimble’s TSC1™ data
collector (the TSC1).
For a tutorial on using Asset Surveyor to collect and maintain data,
refer to Chapter 5 of the TSC1 Asset Surveyor Operation Manual. For
more detailed information on the software, refer to the relevant
sections of the TSC1 Asset Surveyor Software User Guide.

0.2New Features
Asset Surveyor version 5.27 includes fixes for the following problems:
• If you delete a line or area feature that contains averaged
vertices from the Review list, and then display the Map screen,
error message Mapfeat 3225 appears.
• When you press the I softkey, and the selected line or area
feature has both averaged vertices and an offset applied, error
message Delta 6061 appears.
• Asset Surveyor is unable to track the LandStar L-band satellite
in Europe. Due to a catastrophic failure of the EMS
communication satellite, LandStar services to Europe on
1531.210 MHz have ceased. In September, a new European
beam began operating on 1535.195 MHz. The version 5.27
software includes this new frequency for LandStar users in
Europe.

0.3Installing Asset Surveyor
If you want to install Asset Surveyor 5.27 on an existing TSC1 data
collector (with an earlier version of Asset Surveyor or the Trimble
Survey Controller™ software already installed), then read this section
carefully and follow the instructions it contains.

0.3.1 Equipment Required for Installation

To install Asset Surveyor 5.27 on the TSC1 data collector, you need
the following:
• An IBM-compatible personal computer running Windows 95,
98, Me, XP, or NT, with at least one available serial RS232 port
and at least 8 MB of free hard disk space.
• Your TSC1 data collector.
• The Asset Surveyor 5.27 software. This includes the
WinFLASH software. Download Asset Surveyor 5.27 from the
Trimble website at www.trimble.com/assetsurveyor.html.
• Optionally, a 9-pin to 25-pin converter. This is required if your
personal computer has a 25-pin serial port connector on its
COM1 or COM2 port.
• Optionally, a Trimble Support Module (TSM™). A TSM
provides an external source of power for installation, so that you
do not have to use the TSC1 data collector’s internal battery.
Connect the TSM to the TSC1, using the appropriate adapter
cable for the model of TSM.
Note – You can install Asset Surveyor using power from the
TSC1 internal lithium-ion battery; however, Trimble
recommends that you use a TSM. This prevents accidental
termination of the installation process while running off a
discharged battery.

0.3.2 Installing Asset Surveyor 5.27 on a TSC1
Before installing Asset Surveyor 5.27, perform an option upgrade if:
• the TSC1 is currently running the Trimble Survey Controller
software and does not have a valid license for Asset Surveyor
• the current Asset Surveyor support warranty has expired.
For instructions on how to perform an option upgrade, see Loading
Options on the TSC1, page 14. After upgrading you can install Asset
Surveyor.

C Warning – When Asset Surveyor is installed on the TSC1, it erases the

data collector’s memory. The installation does not begin until you transfer
and delete all data files from the TSC1.

Using a TSM as the power source
To install Asset Surveyor on your TSC1 data collector, using a TSM as
an external power source, connect the equipment listed on page 4. See
Figure 1.

To connect the TSC1 data collector to your personal computer:
1. Plug the TSM into the wall current (mains).
2. Connect one end of the TSM extension cable (P/N 14284) to the
DATALOGGER port on the TSM.
3. Connect the other end of the TSM extension cable to the TSC1
data cable (P/N 32287-00). This cable connects to either the top
or bottom port of the TSC1.
4. Connect the COMPUTER port on the TSM to the personal
computer’s COM1 or COM2 serial port, using the null modem
cable (P/N 18532).
5. Make sure the TSC1, TSM, and personal computer are turned
on.
Using the TSC1 lithium-ion battery as the power source
To install Asset Surveyor on your TSC1 data collector, using the TSC1
internal lithium-ion battery as the power source, connect the
equipment listed on page 4. See Figure 2.

TSC1 Asset Surveyor Release Notes 7

Note – You cannot install Asset Surveyor using the TSC1 internal
lithium-ion battery if the battery level is below 50%.
To connect the TSC1 data collector directly to your personal
computer:
1. Connect the TSC1 data cable (P/N 32287-00) to the top or
bottom port on the TSC1.
2. Connect the other end of the TSC1 data cable to the null modem
cable (P/N 18532).
3. Connect the other end of the null modem cable to the personal
computer’s COM1 or COM2 serial port.
4. Make sure the TSC1 and personal computer are turned on.
Note – You can install Asset Surveyor using power from the TSC1
internal lithium-ion battery; however, Trimble recommends that you
use a TSM. This prevents accidental termination of the installation
process while running off a discharged battery.

The following instructions show how to upgrade the software option
on a TSC1. To upgrade the option you must have a Trimble-provided
password.
Note – Once the option is successfully upgraded, you must install
Asset Surveyor 5.27. For more information, see Installing Asset
Surveyor 5.27 on a TSC1, page 5.
For the option installation using a TSM as an external source of power,
