PRE-SPANISH APRIL 27, 1521


COLONIAL The first recorded organized resistance against
foreign aggressor took place in the Visayas during

resisted and rose to revolt, notable of which are as
follows: Raja Lakandula (1574), Magat Salamat
(1588), Malong Revolt (1660), Igorot Revolt (1601),
Irraya/Gaddang Revolt (1621), Tamblot Revolt in
Bohol (1762-1722), Silang Revolt (1763), Timawas
Revolt (1763), Basi Revolt in Ilocos (1807), Dagohoy
Revolt in Bohol (1744-1829).

JULY 7, 1892
THE 1ST FORMAL
Andres Bonifacio, who is considered as the father

The Cry of Pugad Lawin signaled the start

of the Philippine Revolution against Spain.

The Tejeros Convention was called to resolve

Aguinaldo and the Magdiwang led by

Bonifacio.

FEBRUARY 4, 1899
The Philippine American war started.

RISE OF THE DECEMBER 21, 1935
COMMONWEALTH Commonwealth (National Defense act Nr 1Circa
ARMY 1935) was passed. An act that provides for the
establishment of National Defense Force.

JANUARY 11, 1936


The Philippine Army was reactivated pursuant to
EO Nr 11 with the Philippine Constabulary as its
Nucleus.

JULY 26, 1941


US President Franklin D Roosevelt called into
service the 2 regular and 10 reserve division as part
of the USAFE called to Active Duty the following
Day.

DECEMBER 1941
The Japanese invasion at Bataan, Vigan, and
Appari. Invading Japanese Forces caused the fall of
Bataan on April 9, 1942 and Corregidor on May 6,
1942.

OCTOBER 20, 1944


Successful comeback of the liberating US forces
under Gen Douglas Mc Arthur who Landed in Leyte.

OCTOBER 4, 1947
President Manuel Roxas issued EO Nr 92 renaming
the ARMY as Armed Forces of the Philippines.

DECEMBER 30, 1950


President E Quirino issued EO nr 359 creating the 4
Major Service; the Phil Constabulary, Phil Army,
Phil Navy, and the Philippine Airforce.

THE SEPTEMBER 21, 1972


MARTIAL President Ferdinand Marcos declared Martial Law.
LAW ERA 1972 – 1986
Pres Marcos expanded the Army from 29,000 in
1972 to 65,00 in 1986 and strengthened the 3
independent Brigades to full Divisions due to
insurgency threats.
JUNE 24, 1976
The Philippine Army Light Armor Brigade (PALAB)
was organized.
AUGUST 21, 1986
Sen. Benigno Aquino was assassinated.
1979 – 1986
The NPA grew in strength from 3,000 in 1979 to
25,000 in 1986.

overthrew the government of Joseph Estrada.
