Water soluble
BASF® IRGACOR® L 190 Plus Corrosion Inhibitor
Typical chemical and IRGACOR L 190 Plus, an organic polycarboxylic acid, is a water-soluble corrosion
physical properties inhibitor for all types of water based lubricants and functional fluids.
NH-(CH ) -COOH

(1) Density reported for solid product at 25 °C ( method ASTM D 2638 - helium pyknometer)
(2) If the pH is adjusted with triethanolamine (TEA) or another base to pH > 8 then the
solubility in water increases to > 5.0%
(3) TEA > 99% pure is recommended to meet requirement of German TRGS 611.
Applications and All types of water based lubricant and functional fluids:
typical treat levels - Semi-synthetic and synthetic metal working fluids
recommended - Biodegradable water based hydraulic fluids (HFC)
- Organic acid technology (OAT) or hybrid engine coolants
Recommended treat level: 0.2 - 1.5 %
Guidelines for use IRGACOR L 190 Plus contains water; it must not be stored below freezing point or in a
warm environment; it also must not be heated.
IRGACOR L 190 Plus is a free acid having a limited solubility in water. To dissolve
IRGACOR L 190 Plus in water take the solid product and then slowly add,
triethanolamine, or another neutralisation agent, drop-wise with constant stirring until the
pH reaches 8.5 (measure the pH with a pH meter). The solution will be clear within a
short time.
Solubility IRGACOR L 190 Plus is soluble up to 20% in water when the pH is adjusted to pH > 8
with a variety of amines typically used to formulate metal working fluids.

Corrosion inhibition Aqueous solutions of IRGACOR L 190 Plus neutralized with triethanolamine show
and hard water compatibility good rust prevention with waters of different hardness.
The solutions remain clear indicating good hard water compatibility.
