Q: Explain Articles of Faith according to Surah Baqra. [15 marks]

Surah Baqra is a Madani Surah however the last verses of the surah were revealed in Makkah. In Surah
Baqra Allah has pointed out the wrongdoings and characteristics of the munafiqin. It covers a lot of
stories and incidents that revolve around the main idea which is invitation to the divine guidance. In the
start of the surah its declares Quran as the final divine book that should be followed, and then follows up
with the Articles of faith that are; Belief in Allah, Prophet hood and Life after Death. In the ending stages
of the surah it is tells us about how important it is for mankind to follow the articles of faith.

The Holy prophet(pbuh) himself said this about the last two verses of surah al-baqra.

“Whoever recites the last two verses of Surat al-Baqarah at night, it will suffice him’” (According to Abu
Masood al-Ansaari and narrated by al-Bukhaari, 4723; Muslim, 807).

This shows how important this surah is for us.

“The Messenger has believed in the Guidance which has been sent down to him from his Lord, and those
who believe in the Messenger have also sincerely accepted the same. They all believe in Allah, His
Angels, His Books and Messengers. And they say, "We do not discriminate against any of His
Messengers. We have heard the Message and submitted to it. Our Lord, we look up to You for
forgiveness, for to You we shall all return."

This verse tells us about all articles of faiths together. The verse says that all the messengers are guided
by Allah and they obey him and don’t doubt any knd of the knowledge they are bestowed.

“Allah does not burden any human being with a responsibility heavier than he can bear. Everyone will
enjoy the fruit of the good that one has earned and shall suffer for the evil that one has committed. (O
Believers, pray like this to Allah: "Our Lord, take us not to task if we forget and lapse into error
inadvertently. Lord! lay not on us the kind of burdens that You had lain on the people before us. Lord, lay
not on us the kind of burden that we have not the strength to bear. Be kind to us, forgive us and show
mercy to us. You are our Protector : help us against the disbelievers.”

The last verse of surah al baqra holds a very important place, it summarizes all the points of the surah.
Starting with the fact that Allah never puts more pressure on his humans than he cant bear. It also tells
us that how the rewards and punishments will be given to everyone in the world and in life after death.

In the end we can say that it is a really big blessing to have this surah as reciting it has huge rewards and
we can learn a lot from it and live a better life following the right path of Islam and teachings of the
Quran
