Chapter 1

Introduction

Overview
maxSTATION Release 6.0.6 is a full install update to Release 6.0.5
intended to support existing customer upgrades to WINDOWS 7, and
include fixes (refer to Bugs Fixed Section) to the 6.0.5 Release.

This release is a one-DVD installation disk. All prerequisites for the

installation of a maxSTATION are on this DVD. The installation
process guides the user through the installation. The maxTOOLS is
optionally installed, by enabling the check box on the installation type
display to Include Legacy support.

The DVD includes a folder that contains an installation file for Chinese
Fonts. This is not installed automatically, but is available for Chinese
Windows installations.

The release DVD also includes a folder that contains an installation file
for .Net 4.0. This should be automatically installed if not already on the
station, but some Chinese Windows laptops failed this installation. This
folder is included so that the .Net package can be manually installed
without going to the Internet to download files. In order to fully use .Net
on Chinese Windows, a Chinese language pack (not included on the
DVD) should also be installed.

This document contains highlights of the changes and new features in this
release. Descriptions of the bug fixes can be found in section Bugs Fixed.
There are other supporting documents that give additional information
about this release.

For full installation or upgrade instructions, refer to the Release 6.0.6

Installation Instructions (InstallationInstructions606.pdf).

Release 6.x requires a version 6.0 USB dongle.

Windows 7
Release 6.x runs only in a computer running Microsoft Windows 7.

Metso Automation USA Inc. 1-1

Release Overview

Windows 7 64 bit Professional and above are supported by this release

of maxSTATION.

As a result of the use of Windows 7, the maxSTATION should have at

least 4 GB of memory, due to the larger memory ‘footprint’ occupied by
the operating system.

Update details for all Release 6 versions are included below.

Release 6.0.6 Update Details

Integrated PROFIBUS installation
This release now includes installing the PROFIBUS configuration programs
and configuration libraries, which formerly required separate installation.
Additional licensing is still required to use the features.

Please reference the new online manual entitled “278745_PROFIBUS

Windows 7 User's Guide_A1” in the folder “C:\MCS\maxDOCS\_Release 6.0
Manuals\278615 Volume 5”.

Integrated Field Care Installation

This release now includes installing Field Care support files specific for the
maxDNA version of Field Care, which formerly required separate installation.
Additional licensing and installation is still required for the base Field Care
package to use the features.
Please reference the new online manual entitled “278748_maxDNA_Windows
7 FieldCare User's Guide_A1” in the folder “C:\MCS\maxDOCS\_Release 6.0
Manuals\278615 Volume 5”.

maxDPUTools changes
Changes have been made to the Online differences, DPU upload, and DPU
Bulk Upload dialog displays to include the showing of the current status of
both DPUs of a DPU pair. The intent is to allow the user to choose the Inactive
Hot member of a DPU pair for the selected operation. Previously for
differences and Bulk Upload, only the active DPU was used by default.
Selecting the Inactive Hot DPU will produce the same results as using the
Active DPU, and avoids the additional loading on the Active DPU, which has
the potential to slow peer-to-peer subscription data transfer, causing problems
when these data transfers are critically timed. The dialog displays now
accentuate with highlight text that an Inactive Hot DPU is the preferred choice
to use when present.

Please reference the updated online manual entitled

“278597_maxDPUTools_B5” in the folder “C:\MCS\maxDOCS\_Release 6.0
Manuals\278611 Volume 2”.

1-2 Metso Automation USA Inc.

In addition, updated master configurations and libraries are included to match
the recent releases for DPU 4F version 4.6, and DPU MR version 6.1.0.1.
These include changes in the optional Network Storm configuration, and
support for the new features of the FBG and EFB algorithm blocks.

Auto Update of Sizable Trend Assignments

This release includes changes to the Sizable Trend display to detect that
an old version of its display has saved online changes. It prompts the
user to confirm that the old changes be copied to the new version in the
online assignment database. This is a onetime, online, prompt that
results in the online changes being preserved or removed. For more
details, please refer to Volume 2 Publication 278594 Auxiliary
Functions User’s Guide for more information.

Last Button Expanded

This release increased the number of displays that the last/next buttons
can handle to ten (plus the current display).

trend displays when upgrading from the older 4 x 3 monitors to the newer
wide screen monitors. The two older Trend Wrapper controls do not
stretch themselves to fit on the wide screen monitors, but the Sizable
Trend Wrapper does. This script processes MNT files created by
maxVUE Editor and converts to a new MNT file using the Sizable Trend
Wrapper with the properties from the older wrappers.

The new MNT files may be imported using the maxVUE Editor which
will convert the displays to use the newer Sizable Trend Wrapper.

More detailed instructions may be found in Publication 278594

Release 6.0.2 Update Details

SimTransport User Interfaces

When SimTransport is run as a service, the user interface that shows
Virtual DPU status via its dialog window is not available. Changes have
been made to remedy this:
A tab showing the information that would be shown on the
SimTransport dialog application has been added to SBPMonitor.
This tab is only shown if SimTransport is configured to run.
SimTransport has been updated to support browsing of the
information it maintains via the Point Browser.

maxDPUTools
Improvements have been added to validate the maxPAC bus address
assignments based on the rules for modulo address alignment, and span
of addresses required per the different buffer types combined with
maxPAC attribute setting. Fast DIB address ranges will also be
validated.

Data validation for the address will take place on the detail grid as entry
is completed. Dropdowns have been added to now show HEX address
format as well as integer value. Complete Validation can be demanded
but will also run prior to an install. Errors such as invalid or overlapping
address assignments will prevent a download from starting until
corrected. A docked validation pane will appear on demand to show the
results and allow navigation to the detail when correction is needed.

The Hardware tab has also been improved to show the range of bus
addressing used by a buffer, and will include yellow or red background
highlighting of problems along with error message tooltips.

Advance configuration support has been added for the new model DPU
MR and ACN MR. Each has a 6.0 release version master configuration
included. The configuration file types will use file extents of “DPUMR”,
and “ACNMR” to distinguish them from the “4E” and “4F”. Upwards
conversion is supported for migration of existing configurations to the
newer versions as needed.

Refer to the updated “278597_maxDPUTools_B3.doc”.

maxVUE Editor and Runtime

Metso Automation USA Inc. 1-15

Release Overview

Improvements have been made to maxVUE to handle the situation where

it may be opening a display with unregistered (custom) OCX controls.
These OCX controls could be embedded in the display itself or part of an
MNG Group.
An OCX that is embedded in a display will be drawn as a white
area with red stripes.
An OCX that is part of an MNG will not draw.
A warning message is output when such an OCX is discovered.
maxVUE Editor will not save a display with an embedded OCX
that has caused the warning message. A display that uses
MNG(s) with this warning will be saved, but a source display
used to generate the MNG will not be saveable.
The layers dialog in maxVUE Editor may be used to find
embedded OCX controls and delete them so the display can be
saved if desired.

1-16 Metso Automation USA Inc.

maxVUE Editor and Runtime
The option to display all Buttons with rounded corners has been added.
The option to add a surrounding glow to a button when the mouse is
placed hovering over the button has also been added.

Above: An example of rounded corners with a glow emphasis.

Both of the rounded corner buttons and button glow options are
controlled by registry settings accessible using the MCSRegisterEditor
and default to not disabled:
